Introduction
Fraternities and sororities are social associations prevalent in
numerous state and private universities and colleges. These social
groups hold significant significance in college life as they provide
students with opportunities to acquaint themselves with new
individuals, cultivate friendships, and partake in enjoyable events. It is
also important to note that there have been instances of hazing,
alcohol abuse, and sexual misconduct associated with some
fraternities.

Statement of the Problem

The primary problem is to address the declining participation in
Greek life among students in prestigious universities, particularly UP
Diliman, while simultaneously ensuring the strict enforcement of the
anti-hazing law to eradicate dangerous hazing practices. To address
this concern, the Philippines has enacted Republic Act No. 8049, the
anti-hazing law, which strictly prohibits hazing activities and imposes
severe penalties on those involved in causing harm to neophytes
during initiation rituals.
