VALLEDUPAR CITY?
• Valledupar is the capital of the
department of Cesar, Colombia.
It is located to the northeast of
the Colombian Caribbean
Coast, on the banks of the
Guatapurí River, in the Cesar
River valley formed by the
Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
and the Perijá mountain range.

ALFONSO LOPEZ PUMAREJO SQUARE

You can start your tour in Valledupar by visiting the


Alfonso López Pumarejo square, the founding place of
the city, where you can see architectural details from the
colonial era. For several decades the Festival of the
Vallenato Legend was held in this place.
Currently, political, military, commercial, cultural and
religious ceremonies are organized there. In addition, in
the Vallenato Festival season some contests are held.

It is an architectural complex located on
the right bank of the Guatapurí River.
Since 2004 the Vallenato Festival has
been held. It is an ecological, cultural
and tourist site, it has a capacity for
more than 20,000 people.
At the Vallenata Legend Festival, the
greatest festival of popular folk culture
that is celebrated in Valledupar every
year at the end of April, the best
composers and interpreters of the
different airs of vallenato come
together: the merengue, the puya, the
walk and the sound
Accordion Museum (Beto Murgas
house)
Accordion Museum (Beto Murgas
house) Considered as a reference for
the study of vallenato folklore, the
house of Beto Murgas, a place that
narrates the history of the musical
instrument that identifies the
vallenatos.
Inside the museum you will find an
exhibition of elements such as the
Sheng, a Chinese musical instrument
that originated the accordion, the
indigenous bagpipe, the dulzaina, a
range of accordions with different
keyboards and different designs such
as: the diatonic accordion, the
chromatic accordion, the piano model,
the concertina and the bandoneon.

Settlement of the Arhuaca Indigenous
Community, located three hours from
Valledupar and is one of the great tourist
sites of Cesar.
HURTADO

One of the greatest attractions that


Valledupar has in terms of tourism is
the Hurtado Spa, a river that has
been the inspiring muse of many
composers who have described its
crystalline waters and its strength.
Also, the river has its own stories,
myths, legends that make it a unique
place. It is located north of the city.
MY PIECE OF
ACCORDION
It is a work carried out by the
sculptor Gabriel Beltrán, in honor
of the minstrel and first Vallenato
king Alejandro Durán. It also
became a symbol of all accordion
players in the region.
It is a tribute to the founder of
the Vallenato Festival 'La

Pilonera noguera. It is located in the
roundabout in front of the
Parque de La leyenda vallenata.
Viewpoint of Saint
Ecce Homo
It is located in the highest part of Las Antenas hill,
and is part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
forest reserve; the structure of Santo Ecce Homo is
35 meters high.

This monument, called 'Los
ojos del alma', is a musical
contribution that Leandro
Díaz made to folklore with
its more than 350 songs.

It is a wonderful tourist site
where you can see another
tribute to Vallenato music
artists, such as Lorenzo
Morales, Leandro Díaz, Rafael
Escalona, ​Diomedes Díaz,
Emiliano Zuleta Baquero,
Martín Elías, Jorge Oñate and
Poncho Zuleta.
The Province Park

This place is located a few


meters from the Guatapurí
river, the Los Juglares
roundabout and the Parque
de la Leyenda Vallenata. It is
a place that pays homage to
Magdalena Grande and
among its attractions it has a
human-scale sculpture of
the musician Carlos Vives.
