Hello people, welcome to the presentation of the green moon festival held in San Andres,

Providencia and Santa Catalina. First of all, we are going to talk about the history and why it is
celebrated, secondly we will talk about the main events, and thirdly we will do an activity
related to the theme.

Historia del Festival

History of the Festival

Se celebró por primera vez en la región, el día 21 de mayo de 1987 y ha continuado llevándose a
cabo hasta la actualidad.

It was held for the first time in the region on May 21, 1987 and has continued to be held until
today.

A finales de los 80’s, un grupo de gestores culturales y el apoyo del intendente Simón González
Restrepo, crearon el festival de música y cultura del Caribe, para dar una identidad propia y
genuina a las islas.

At the end of the 80's, a group of cultural managers and the support of the mayor Simón González
Restrepo, created the Caribbean music and culture festival, to give the islands their own and
genuine identity.

La administración de la Casa de la Cultura del lugar, creó la Fundación Green Moon, la cual se
encargó de dicha celebración.

The administration of the local House of Culture created the Green Moon Foundation, which was
in charge of said celebration.

Game
The game is based on the famous little staircase, you must play passing all the boxes, meeting the
challenges that each one presents, the winner will be given a candy as a prize.

El principal objetivo del Festival de la Luna Verde, es exponer, resaltar y celebrar, las diferentes
expresiones culturales y costumbres de los habitantes oriundos de San Andrés, dejando ver
claramente su origen mixto con ascendencia europea y africana que llegaron a la isla en época de
la Colonia.

The main objective of the Green Moon Festival is to expose, highlight and celebrate the different
cultural expressions and customs of the native inhabitants of San Andrés, clearly showing their
mixed origin with European and African ancestry who arrived on the island at the time of the
colony.

Se caracteriza porque dentro de él están presentes rasgos de la historia de la Isla, como la

desaparición absoluta de la presencia indígena, así como la colonización por parte de los ingleses
que introdujeron africanos para laborar en grandes plantaciones y se manifiesta hoy en día en la
cultura sanandresana.

It is characterized by features of the island's history being present within it, such as the absolute
disappearance of the indigenous presence, as well as colonization by the English who introduced
Africans to work on large plantations and is manifested today in the San Andreas culture.

El evento, inicia con un desfile en las calles de San Andrés, al sonido de los tambores y junto a
coreografías.

The event begins with a parade in the streets of San Andrés, to the sound of drums and along with
choreographies.

Este festival se convierte en una fiesta de cantos, tambores, risas y colores buscando que durante
toda la semana que dura la celebración, los locales y los extranjeros de la Isla, se mezclen en
medio de la Luna Verde y ha buscado incluir tópicos diferentes, como es el caso del estudio y el
análisis de la lengua Kriol o Lengua Criolla es similar a algunas de las derivadas del idioma inglés.

This festival becomes a festival of songs, drums, laughter and colors seeking that throughout the
week that the celebration lasts, the locals and foreigners of the Island, mix in the middle of the
Green Moon and has sought to include different topics, as is the case of the study and analysis of
the Kriol language or Creole language, it is similar to some of those derived from the English
language.

Además, se realiza competencias deportivas como; caballos, juegos de dominó, juegos de softball
y competencias en botes de vela tipo batboat.

In addition, sports competitions are held such as; horses, games of dominoes, softball games and
batboat sailing competitions.

Por otro lado, el corazón de éste Festival es la música, con artistas locales, nacionales e
internacionales representativos de los géneros del Caribe y de sonidos propios como el Reggae, el
Dancehall, el Konpa Haitiano, zouk, soca, calypso, salsa, merengue, ritmos cubanos, africanos y los
más tradicionales de la cultura propia de San Andrés, también se resalta una noche de concierto a
la música Góspel.

On the other hand, the heart of this Festival is music, with local, national and international artists
representing Caribbean genres and their own sounds such as Reggae, Dancehall, Haitian Konpa,
zouk, soca, calypso, salsa, merengue , Cuban, African and the most traditional rhythms of the
culture of San Andrés, a night of Gospel music concert is also highlighted.
