• Punjab derived from Persian word


punj (five) and ab (water) which
means land of five rivers
History of Punjab

• Punjab was part of Indus Valley Civilization more than 5000 years old.

• In 1947 the Punjab province of India was divided along religious lines into West
Punjab and East Punjab.
Government of Punjab

• The Government of Punjab is a provincial government in the federal structure.


• The Provincial Assembly of the Punjab is a unicameral legislature of elected
representatives of the province of Punjab.
• The Assembly was established under Article 106 of the Constitution of Pakistan as
having a total of 371 seats, with 66 seats reserved for women and eight reserved for non-
Muslims.

current interim chief minister of
Punjab.

• Capital of Punjab Lahore.

• The main language of the Punjab is Punjabi , Sairaki and Hindko.

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west
• Islamabad and Azad Kashmir in the north.

• Punjabi culture is regarded as one of the oldest in world history.
• Punjabi culture is the culture of Punjab people who are now in
different regions of the world map.
PUNJABI DRESSES
• The people of Punjab wear clothes having
mix color, which is
regarded as beauty.
• They usually use dress called phulkari
which have mix color.
• In Punjab male often use pagri,
dhoti, khussa and shalwar kameez
which is also national dress of our country.
PUNJABI FOOD
• Punjab has wide range of their cooking material which is
popular like makei di roti and sarsun da saag.
• Punjabi foods includes lahori pulao, chicken karahi, aloo
gosht, payee, gol gappy, special punjabi salad, murgh
channay, lassi and many more.
• The philosophy of many people of Punjab is to eat, drink
and live freely.
PUNJABI WEDDING TRADITION
• Punjabi culture have many ceremonies in marriage
• The pre-mehndi functions include
mehndi, dholki and mangni etc.

• The wedding process include sehrabandi


and nikkah ceremony.
• The dhol is an important part of the wedding.
PUNJABI SPORTS
• Punjabi people have fanatical interest in
sports. Punjabi’s are fond of kabaddi, and
wrestling,
• Other games being played in Punjab
region include Gilli-Danda, Khoo-Khoo,
Yassu-Panju, Pitho-Garam, Ludo,
Chuppan-Chupai, Baraf-Panni, Kanchy
and some major sports include cricket,
boxing, horse-racing, hockey and
football.
Industries
• Punjab has numerous large industrial
concentrations in sectors such as textiles,
leather, and engineering goods.
• It also has geographically distinct industrial
clusters, the most well known of which is
the "industrial triangle" comprising
Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Gujrat.
• In total, there are seven industrial zones in
Punjab: Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad,
Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Wazirabad, and
Islamabad/Rawalpindi.

EDUCATION IN PUNJAB
• Literacy rate in Punjab has seen
upward trend and is 75.84 percent as
per latest population census. Of that,
male literacy stands at 80.44 percent
while female literacy is at 70.73
percent.
• Compared to the other provinces,
Punjab has the highest participation
rates among school-age children.
There are currently about 60,000
government schools and 35,000
private schools in Punjab, spread
across 36 districts.
