What is Asbestos?
Asbestos- is a group of minerals that occur naturally as
bundles of fibers. These fibers are found in soil and
rocks in many parts of the world. They are made mainly
of silicon and oxygen, but they also contain other
elements.

Asbestos  is a set of six naturally occurring

silicate mineral, which all have in common their
eponymous asbestiform habit.
Asbestos is best known for its resistance to flame and its
ability to be woven into cloth.
Types of Asbetos-

1.CHRYSOTILE :  (white asbestos) is the most

commonly used form of asbestos and can be found
today in the roofs, ceilings, walls and floors of
homes and businesses.
2 . AMOSITE (brown asbestos)- 3 . CROCIDOLITE (blue

tiles and thermal insulation pipe insulation, plastics and
products. cement products.

Production History of
Asbestos-
Asbestos production began in the Urals of the Russian
Empire in the 1880s, and in the Alpine regions of Northern
Italy.

In Japan, particularly after World War II, asbestos was

used in the manufacture of ammonium sulfate for
purposes of rice production, sprayed upon the ceilings,
iron skeletons, and walls of railroad cars and buildings
(during the 1960s).

Asbestos use dates back at least 4,500 years, when the

inhabitants of the Lake Juojärvi region in East Finland .

Is Asbestos is harmful ?
The most common way for asbestos fibers to
enter the body is through breathing. In
fact, asbestos containing material is not
generally considered to be harmful unless it is
releasing dust or fibers into the air where they
can be inhaled or ingested.

All the identified forms of asbestos can cause

asbestosis, malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer,
ovarian cancer, laryngeal cancer and other
serious diseases.
