LESSON 1:

INTRODUCTION TO
3D MODELING
WHAT IS 3D MODELING?
3D modeling is generally defined as the
process of developing a representation of
a real or inanimate object in the three-
dimensional world with the aid of 3D
software.
 Toexplain it simply, 3D modeling is the process of
creating a real-world object (like a car) or an
imaginary object (like a UFO) in a 3D virtual
world. The resulting 3D object that you create
looks like, or at the very least, can be visualized, as
the real or imaginary object.
STYLISTIC VS. PHOTOREALISTIC
MODELING
 Stylized modeling is what we just talked about in
the last few paragraphs. A box with eyes or our
cylinder-sphere tree. This is when 3D modelers
purposely go out of their way to make 3D objects a
lot different to the real world in order to fulfill
some purpose.
Photorealistic

Photorealistic modeling aims to

simulate eye-for-eye a 3D object that
looks exactly like the real-world
object.
TYPES OF 3D MODELING
1. Parametric modeling
 This type of 3D modeling relies heavily on the
object parameters (width, height, breadth, length).
It is used to make/ design objects such as a cube, a
mount for a motor in a robot or even a car (shown
above) or a jet, all of which need to be made as per
certain size / parametric specifications.
2. Polygonal/ Direct modeling
. It prioritizes conceptual thinking
and feels like sculpting “digital
clay”. It is typically used today in
animation and video game industries
to create/ design 3D objects .
Activity #1
1. Create your own 3d model sample on scratch
paper.
2. After that, use 3d paint software then apply.
