Today, like many times when we come

together because of the occasion of

death and we have mixed feelings.
None of us enjoy losing a loved one to
the grave but at the same time we can
come here today with rejoicing knowing
that as we remember our loved one
today we remember one who had put

TEMPORARY
FUNERAL SERMON
In behalf of the
immediate family I want
to say thank you for
coming here tonight.
Introduction:
Ecclesiastes 7:2 NLT
2 Better to spend your time at
funerals than at parties. After
all, everyone dies— so the
living should take this to
When death strikes
close,
we are REMINDED
of several things.
1. WE ARE REMINDED OF THE
UNCERTAINTY AND BREVITY OF LIFE
(Gipahinumduman kita sa kawalay
kasiguruhan ug sa ka mubo sa kinabuhi)
A. LIFE IS SHORT
James 4:14 NLT
14 How do you know what your life will be
like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning
fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.
According to UN Statistics Division
(United Nations Statistics Division)
• There were 67.1 million deaths in 2022.
• The global number of deaths per day is around
150,000 deaths.
According to PSA
(Philippine Statistics Authority)
• An average of 2,409 deaths registered per day
• In 2021, a total of 879,429 deaths were
registered in the Philippines, and almost 1Million
Psalm 90:10 NLT
10 Seventy years are given to us! Some
even live to eighty. But even the best years
are filled with pain and trouble; soon they
disappear, and we fly away.
• We should live every day as if it's
our last, for it may be worth it.
2. WE ARE REMINDED
THAT DEATH IS COMMON
TO ALL
Hebrews 9:27 NLT
27 And just as each person
is destined to die once and
after that comes judgment,
A. Although we usually try to keep that thought far
from us, today, especially, we are made to realize that
someday we also must step from this life into another
that is without end.
B. Each of us will have our individual funerals
conducted:
1. We might ask ourselves:
What memories will I leave?
What will my loved ones and friends feel?
2. Most importantly - What will my destiny be?
Since we cannot evade death and since we are really never more
than one step from eternity, we must prepare to meet our God.
3. WE SEE MORE CLEARLY THE
FUTILITY OF EARTHLY THINGS.
(Makita nato ang pagka walay bili
sa kalibutanong mga butang)
A. Life is too precious; happiness, joy and peace are
far too valuable to be neglected, or to be lost while
rushing after the material things that, at best, last
us only a few days. Job said, "Naked came I from
my mother's womb, and naked shall I return"
1 Timothy 6:6-8
6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great
wealth. 7 After all, we brought nothing with us
when we came into the world, and we can’t take
anything with us when we leave it. 8 So if we have
enough food and clothing, let us be content.
Colossians 3:2-3
2. Think about the things of heaven, not the things
of earth. 3. For you died to this life, and your real
life is hidden with Christ in God.
4. WE SEE HOW MUCH WE
REALLY DO NEED JESUS CHRIST
A. We need Him to save us from our
sinfulness, to lead us safely through life, to
give us strength and comfort, and to be with
us when we must walk through the valley of
the shadow of death.
B. Jesus Himself experienced death and came
back again.
A.Through Christ, we can gain the
victory over death.
1 Corinthians 15:54
54 Then, when our dying bodies
have been transformed into bodies
that will never die, this Scripture
will be fulfilled “Death is swallowed
up in victory.
B. Let us strive to overcome.
Revelation 2:11
11. “Anyone with ears to hear must
listen to the Spirit and understand
what he is saying to the churches.
Whoever is victorious will not be
harmed by the second death.
IN CONCLUSION
As Christians, we understand that our
true home is in heaven. We are merely
visitors here on Earth, and the things of
this world are nothing more than
temporary vessels to be used to glorify
God. King Solomon was wise in his
observation that everything is
meaningless, as it is only when we put
We live in a world where people
strive to gain wealth, fame, power,
and possessions. However, these
earthly items are not what matters
most. They may provide comfort or
joy for today, but will ultimately be
left behind when our time here ends.
Ultimately, it is only by trusting
GOD with our lives that we can
truly experience joy, peace, and
fulfillment here on Earth and an
eternity spent in Heaven with
our Lord Jesus Christ.
