A One Year Time Capsule

Make a record of all the things you want to do, be and learn by the end of this last year
at primary school. Then put them away in a safe place, or a special container.

In June, you can all open the ‘hopes and aims’ and see if you have achieved them.
Some might have changed too!

Here are some ideas… Name: The school I want to go to next:

I’m good at: I need to work hard on: What I like at school:

What I dislike at school: Friends: In English I want to:

In other activities I want to: (e.g. be in the school play; go

In Maths I want to:
on the school tour; score a goal for the school team.)
A One Year Time Capsule
Write five clues about yourself on a small piece of paper.

Pick things that very few people know, so it’s really hard to guess who the clues
belong to.

For Example:

My middle name is Alex.

I was born in a house, not a hospital.

I lived in Dublin for a while.

I do amazing hurling tricks.

One of my favourite jobs is filling the dishwasher.

When the papers are collected in, they can be shuffled and read aloud to guess who
they belong to.

Letters Home

Often, schools have Parent’s Evenings or special notes for home from a teacher to tell your
parents/guardians when you do something to be proud of at school.

Imagine you can design a letter from your teacher to your parent/guardian.

What will you write? Look at the example below to give you an idea…

To Roisín’s Mother,

I am writing to tell you how hard Roisín is working on her Irish verbs. I can tell she is
practising at home because her weekly grammar and spelling tests have been so good lately.

At the beginning of the year I know she found this topic very challenging. I am very proud
of her for putting such a lot of work into this.

Regards, Ms. Byrne.
