QUADRATIC REGRESSION

▶A statistical technique used to find the

equation of the parabola that best fits a
set of data. This type of regression is an
extension of simple linear regression that
is used to find the equation of the
straight line that best fits a set of data. As
a result, we get an equation of the form:

y=ax2+bx+c  where a≠0.
QUADRATIC REGRESSION

You can identify a quadratic regression

by the plotting of your scatterplots. If
the scatterplots are in a shape looking
like a “U” (concave up), or the
scatterplot are plotted in a shape like an
up-side down U like “∩” (concave
down), then you can say that you have a
Quadratic regression at your data.
WHY DO WE USE QUADRATIC
REGRESSION

▶Quadratic regression is used to model

the relationship between two sets of
variables so that the model can be used
to explain or predict certain outcomes.
IMPORTANCE OF QUADRATIC
FUNCTION IN REAL LIFE
▶ Quadratic equations are used in many real-
life situations such as calculating the areas of
an enclosed space, the speed of an object, the
profit and loss of a product, or curving a
piece of equipment for designing.

▶ Throwing a ball, shooting a cannon, diving

from a platform and hitting a golf ball.
ADVANTAGE OF QUADRATIC
REGRESSION OVER LINEAR REGRESSION
▶ If the quadratic model fits better in your data
than a linear regression, it is because your
data is curving at one point. In
quantification, curving means that your
reached the quantification limit, you
saturated your detector and the response is
not anymore related to the concentration of
your analyte.
LEARNING CURVE
▶ Learning curves are based on the premise
that people and organizations become better
at their tasks as the tasks are repeated.

PURPOSES:
1. Internal
2. External
3. Strategic
HOW TO USE THE
LEARNING CURVE TO
IMPROVE PERFORMANCE

1. Establish clear and precise terms

2. Measure multiple variables at the same
time
3. Double-check your data
4. Make informed decisions
5. Continue monitoring
LIMITATIONS OF LEARNING
CURVES

1. Develop estimates for each organization

2. Reevaluate information
3. Any changes can alter the learning curve
4. The same learning curves do not always apply
to indirect labor and materials
5. The culture of the workplace, resource
availability and changes in the process may
alter the learning curve
BIBLE VERSE

▶ And let the peace of Christ rule in your

hearts, to which indeed you were called in
one body. And be thankful.
