The Internet, truly, is a powerful tool. It can be
used to promote your business, gain new friends,
and stay in touch with the old ones. It is also a
source of entertainment. But like most things in
this world, there is always “another side of the
coin.” The Internet is one of the most dangerous
places, especially if you do not know what you are
doing.

precautions that should be observed
when using the internet to ensure that
the users as well as their computers and
personal information are safe from
crimes associated with using the
internet.

Tips to stay safe online
1. Be mindful of what you share online and what site you
share it to.
2. Do not just accept terms and conditions, read it.
3. Know the security features of the social networking
site you use. By keeping your profile private.
4. Do not share password with anyone.
5. Avoid logging in to public networks/Wifi. Browsing in
“incognito” mode will NOT protect you from hackers.

6. Do not talk to strangers whether online or face
to face.
7. Never post anything about a future vacation. It is
similar to posting, “Rob my House at this date.”
8. Add friends you know in real life.
9. Avoid visiting untrusted websites.
10. Install and update an anti-virus software on
computer.

11. If you have Wi-Fi at home, make it private
network by adding a password.
12. Avoid downloading anything from untrusted
websites.
13. Do not click or reply from suspicious emails.
14. Make online purchases from secure sites.
Think Before You Click
1. Before you post something on the web, ask
these questions to yourself: Would you want
your parents or grandparents to see it? Would
you want your future boss to see it? Once you
post something on the web, you have no control
of who sees your posts.
2. Your friends depend on you to protect their
reputation online. Talk to your friends about
this serious responsibility.

3. Set your post to “private.” In this way, search
engines will not be able to scan that post.
4. Avoid using names. Names are easy for search
engines to scan.
5. If you feel that a post can affect you or other’s
reputation, ask the one who posted it to pull it
down or report it as inappropriate.

computer user sometimes referred to as
hacker that is illegally browses or steal
someone’s information.

1. Phishing – an email sent from an


internet criminal disguised as an email
from a legitimate, trustworthy source. The
message is meant to lure you into
revealing sensitive or confidential
information.

misleads the user in many ways
attempting to take lead of them.
The purpose of the scam is to cheat the
target of their personal property directly
rather than private information.

3. Malware – it is a malicious software


disguised as real software often secretly
installed, intended to transfer and gather
private information, like passwords
without the users permission.

- Virus
- Worm (ex. ILOVEYOU Worm)
- Trojan

If you create something—an idea,
an invention, a form of literary work,
or a research, you have the right of
how it should be used by others.
This is called intellectual property.

•It is the use of works protected by


copyright without permission for a
usage where such permission is
required.
Tips that could help you avoid
copyright infringement
1. Always assume that the work is copyrighted.
2. Do not copy, share or alter without seeking
permission.
3. Review and retain licensing agreements.
4. Consider buying content.
5. Give credit to the original author of the page or
information.
