Electronic warfare
Electronic Warfare (EW) represents the ability to use the
electromagnetic spectrum—signals such as radio, infrared, or radar—to
sense, protect, and communicate. At the same time, EW can disrupt,
deny and degrade the adversaries' ability to use these signals.

Domains of Electronic Warfare

● Surface Electronic Warfare
●Ground Electronic Warfare
●Airborne Electronic Warfare
●Cyber Electronic Warfare
What Sakthi EW does?
The Shakti EW system will provide an electronic layer of defence
against modern radars and anti-ship missiles to ensure electronic
dominance and survivability in the maritime battlefield

It includes,
interception, classification, detection, identification and
jamming of conventional and modern radars.
What are the key features of Shakti Electronic
Warfare System?
●The Shakti Electronic Warfare System is integrated with electronic
counter measures and wide band Electronic Support Measures.

●It helps in finding the accurate direction and interception of

modern radars.

●It has in – built radar fingerprinting and data recording replay

features. These features help in post mission analysis.
Electronic counter measures
Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) refer to techniques and
technologies used to protect or defend against electronic threats, such
as electronic warfare, electronic eavesdropping, or electronic
surveillance. ECM systems are designed to disrupt or deceive the
operation of enemy electronic devices, sensors, and communication
systems.
Some countermeasures:
●Deception
This can involve emitting false signals, manipulating radar returns, or creating
fake targets to deceive radar or missile guidance systems.
●Frequency hoping
Frequency hopping is a technique where a transmitter rapidly changes its
operating frequency during communication
Wide band Electronic Support Measures (ESM)
It is a type of electronic surveillance system that is capable of detecting and
analysing a broad range of electromagnetic signals across a wide frequency
spectrum. ESM systems are used to gather intelligence by monitoring and
identifying various types of electronic emissions, such as radar signals,
communication signals, or other electronic transmissions.
Features
●Frequency Coverage
●Direction Finding
●Signal Analysis
●Threat warning
Application
The advanced electronic warfare technology has replaced the olden
ew systems, in Ins Vishakhapatnam , Ins Vikrant , talwar class frigate,
p-17A and p-15B.
An additional 12 such systems are being manufactured and would
soon replace the existing systems.
