Madame Tussauds is the most popular wax museum in the world.
People have been enjoying the
wax sculptures at Madame
Tussauds for generations.It is a
major tourist attraction in
London,United Kingdom and a
number of other large
cities around the world.
There are currently 21 Madame
Tussauds worldwide, including six
in the USA and museums in
Beijing, Tokyo and Sydney,
Australia.
BACKSTORY                      
The idea of a wax museum came from Marie Tussauds.She was born during 1760s in
Strasbourg,France.She learned how to do wax modeling from her mothers employer.He was a
physician named Phillippe Curtis.Her first wax sculpture was of Voltaire.
Dr.Phillippe Curtis passed away during 1790s.He left Tussauds his large colection of wax
models. She spent the following 32 years traveling Europe and putting them on display.
Tussaud was married in 1795 to Francois Tussaud. Together they created the traveling show
known as Madame Tussaud's.
FACTS ABOUT THIS MUSEUM
• It takes six months, more than 250 precise measurements and photographs, 2,400 lbs of
wax and $45,000 to make each of Madame Tussaud’s wax portraits.
• Tussauds suffered a fire in 1925 and many statues were lost. Fortunately, all the moulds
remained intact and several pieces were recreated.
• Madame Tussauds was hit by a bomb in 1940 during WWII – the bomb destroyed over 350
head moulds, and devastated a cinema which was part of the museum at the time.
• All portraits displayed in Madame Tussauds have their hair washed and make-up retouched
regularly.

popular celebrities ,directors, athletes, royalty, writers, scientists, painters, musicians, singers,

from display. Over the years hundreds of celebrities have made their way to
Madame Tussauds studio. Most people agree to be portrayed, but some refuse.
