What do we expect from you?

1.Have the attitude of a servant.

a)You are just an instrument in
God’s hands.
b)You are not building your own
kingdom or turf.
c)Be humble. • God will work
through you. • Recognize that all
your fruitfulness will be due to Him.
1. We Serve God by Serving Others
“Whoever wants to be great must become a
Servant” (Mk 10:43)
The world defines greatness in terms of :
• Power
• Possessions
• Prestige
• Position
Acting like a servant is not a popular concept.
Everyone wants to lead; no one wants
to be a Servant.
• We would rather be
generals than privates.
• Even Christians want to
be "servant-leaders,"
not just plain servants.
• But to be like Jesus is to
be a servant. That's
what he called himself.
God shaped you for service, not
for self-centeredness.
• Without a servant's heart,
you will be tempted to
misuse your gift for personal
gain.
• You will also be tempted to
use it as an excuse to
exempt yourself from
meeting some needs. (reg.
payments, back stage
privileges, popularity, etc…)
God often tests our hearts by
asking us to serve in ways we're
not shaped.
Your secondary service is wherever
you're needed at the moment.

Your shape reveals your ministry, but your

servant's heart will reveal your maturity.
No special talent or gift is required to stay after
a meeting to pick up trash or stack chairs.
Anyone can be a servant.
All it requires is character.
How can you know if you have the
heart of a servant?

Jesus said, "You can tell what they are

by what they do" (Matthew 7:16).
2. Servants Make Themselves Available

a servant must always be
standing by for duty
Real Servants do what's needed,
even when it's Inconvenient.
If you will remind yourself at the start of
every day that you are God's servant,
interruptions won't frustrate you as much,
because your agenda will be whatever God
wants to bring into your life. Servants see
interruptions as divine appointments for
ministry and are happy for the opportunity
to practice serving.
Real Servants do what's needed,
even when it's Inconvenient.
If you only serve when it's convenient
for you, you're not a real servant.
• Are you available to God anytime? Can he
mess up your plans without you becoming
resentful? As a servant, you don't get to
pick and choose when or where you will
serve.
• Being a servant means giving up the right
to control your schedule and allowing God
to interrupt it whenever he needs to.
3. Servants Do Every Task With Equal Dedication
"Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won't be
faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won't
be honest with greater responsibilities" (Luke 16:10 NLT).
• Servants do every task with "If you think you are too
equal dedication. Whatever important to help someone in
they do, servants "do it need, you are only fooling
with all their heart" yourself. You are really a

Jesus also did
Small Things
Jesus specialized in menial
tasks that everyone else
tried to avoid: washing feet,
helping children, fixing
breakfast, and serving
lepers. Nothing was too
unimportant for him,
because he came to serve. It
wasn't in spite of his
greatness that he did these
things, but because of it,
and he expects us to follow
his example (John 13:15).
Small tasks often show a big heart

task is too little you when
you have a servant's heart.
The race to be a leader
is crowded, but the
field is wide open for
those willing to be
servants.
Sometimes you serve
upward to those in
authority, and sometimes
you serve downward to
those in need. Either way,
you develop a servant's
heart when you're willing
to do anything needed
4. Servants Finish Their Tasks

• "Well done, my good and faithful

servant. You have been faithful in
handling this small amount, so now
I will give you many more
responsibilities. Let's celebrate
together!" (Matthew 25:23 NLT).
4. Servants Finish Their Tasks
• Real servants are faithful to their ministry.
• Servants finish their tasks, fulfill their
responsibilities, keep their promises, and
complete their commitments.
• They don't leave a job half undone, and they
don't quit when they get discouraged.
• They are trustworthy and dependable.
God Rewards Our Faithfulness
•Faithful servants never retire. They
serve faithfully as long as they're
alive. You can retire from your career,
but you will never retire from serving
God.
5. Servants Maintain a Low Profile
"And all of you must put on the apron of humility,
to serve one another; for the Scripture says, 'God
resists the proud, but shows favor to the humble'"
(1 Peter 5:5)

• Real servants maintain a low

profile. Servants don't
promote or call attention to
themselves. Instead of acting
to impress and dressing for
success, they "put on the
apron of humility, to serve
one another" (1 Peter 5:5 )
Self-promotion and Servanthood don't mix.
6. Servants Serve with
What They Have
"If you wait for perfect conditions, you
will never get anything done"
(Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT).
• Real servants do their best
with what they have. Servants
don't make excuses,
procrastinate, or wait for
better circumstances. Servants
never say, "One of these days"
or "When the time is right."
They just do what needs to be
done.
MINISTRY OR JOB
Ministry or Job
by Anna Sandberg

Some people have a job in the church.

Others invite themselves in a ministry.
What is the difference?
If you are doing it just because
no one else will,
it’s a job.
If you are doing it to serve the Lord,
it’s a ministry.
If you quit because
somebody criticized you,
it’s a job.
If you keep on serving,
it’s a ministry.
If you’ll do it only
as it does not interfere
with your other activities,
it’s a job.
If you are committed to staying
with it even if it means
letting go of other things,
it’s a ministry.
It’s hard to get excited
about a job.
It’s almost impossible
not to be excited about a ministry.
If our concern is success,
it’s a job.
If our concern is faithfulness,
it’s a ministry.
An average church is filled
with people doing jobs.
A great and growing church
is filled with people
involved in ministry.
Where do we fit in?
What about us?
If God calls you to a ministry,
don’t treat it like a job.
If you have a job,
give it up and find a ministry.
God doesn’t want us feeling stuck
with a job
but excited and faithful to HIM in a
ministry.
Galatians 6:9.
“Let us not grow tired
of doing good, for in
due time we shall reap
our harvest, if we do
not give up.”
In Couples for Christ, we
practice the "good enough"
principle: It doesn't have to
be perfect for God to use
and bless it. We would
rather involve thousands of
regular people in ministry
than have a perfect
community run by a few
elites.

Let us serve the Lord with
gladness in our hearts.
WASHING OF THE FEET
What is the message of the
washing of the feet?
By washing the feet of His
disciples, He demonstrated humility.
The lesson is that he who would be
greatest must be always ready to
serve others in a spirit of humility
and self-sacrifice.
PRAYER AFTER WASHING OF THE
FEET

Lord, we thank you for this time together

to learn about Jesus. When Jesus washed
the feet of his disciples, He gave them an
example of how to live in the world. Help
us to remember this and to behave kindly
and humbly toward others, especially
within our families. Amen!
