Intro

We have reffered the article Assessment of the design influence of the

vortex generator on the performance of the solar vortex engine of
Hussain et al and made the simulation accordingly. We made the basic
model as in the article and developed a design through it. In this article
the base model is developed with simulation with experimental values.
In the article they has mainly focused on the vortex generator for
increasing the performance.
• The outer cylinder has a 1 m diameter and 1 m height, while the inner cylinder has a 0.9 m diameter and a
0.6 m height. An annulus region exists between the two cylinders with a 0.05 m gap with this arrangement.
The inner cylinder contains eight air entry slots on its perimeter, followed by guide vanes with an inclination
angle of 25◦. The height of the entry slots and guide vanes is 0.6 m. Both cylinders are covered from the top,
while only the inner cylinder is sealed from the bottom. A 0.3 m diameter hole at the centre of the upper
cover allows the generated air vortex to exit out to the atmosphere.
• The vortex generator is a promising concept that may be a good replacement for the tall chimney structure
in solar chimney power plants.
• The formation and maintenance of the vortex field are characterised by three factors: a high air temperature
at the base, a central low static pressure region and a high vorticity airflow surrounding the low pressure
region
• the intensity and stability of the air vortex are determined by the value and distribution of the static pressure
and vorticity magnitude, as well as the shape of the vortex.
• The geometry was created by AutoCAD software, while the mesh was generated with ANSYS ICEM
• For buoyancy-driven flows, a method for calculating the variation in air density must be specified. In this
study, the incompressible ideal gas law was chosen to avoid the limitations of the Boussinesq approximation
