INTRODUCTION CONT’D (REVIEW OF LITERATURE)

 Kaolin

Kaolin is a clay mineral, with the chemical

composition Al2SiO5(OH)4.
Kaolin is soft, earthy, usually white, mineral.

 Uses of kaolin

Medical, industrial, Cosmetics, and Small scale uses.

INTRODUCTION CONT’D (REVIEW OF
LITERATURE)

Zeolite
According to Ghobarkar et al., zeolite are crystalline
aluminosilicates containing pores and channels of
molecular dimensions that are widely used in industry as
Ion exchange resin, molecular sieves, absorbents and
catalysts.
INTRODUCTION CONT’D (REVIEW OF
LITERATURE)
SYNTHESIS OF ZEOLITE

According to Asselman K. et al. (2022) zeolite are

generally synthesize from low priced silica-
alumina sources under hydrothermal conditions.
The cheap silica-alumina source includes kaolin,
rice husk.
INTRODUCTION CONT’D (REVIEW OF
LITERATURE)

DEVELOPMENT OF ZEOLITE

According to Aroke U. et al. (2016) it is possible

to obtain various morphologies of zeolite
interest for technological applications. The ratio
of silica-alumina determine the type of zeolite
synthesized.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Abundant deposit of kaolin clay in Nigeria can
be use to synthesize zeolite Y which can help
reduce the cost of importing zeolite from
other countries
AIM AND OBJECTIVES

Aim

To synthesize zeolite Y catalyst from

natural kaolin and characterize it

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope is limited to development,

synthesis and characterization (FTIR,

SEM, XRD, XRF) of zeolite Y from local

clay(Kaolin).
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Objectives

To source local clay (kaolin) from (Alkaleri)

To synthesize zeolite Y from kaolin

To characterize the synthesized zeolite

JUSTIFICATION

Abundant of local clay (kaolin)

 Offset fuel scarcity

Conversion of Bio-waste into useful products

Reduce zeolite importation for economical

growth
