CAGAYAN is a province of the Philippines in the Cagayan
Valley Region in the northeast of Luzon Island. The Cagayan
Valley is the largest region in the Philippines with regards to the
land area. The Cagayan River, the country’s longest, runs
through its center and flows out to Luzon Strait in the north, in
the town of Aparri, Cagayan.

• Its capital is the city of Tuguegarao.


• There are 11 islands in the province of Cagayan.
• The Cagayan province is divided into 28 Municipalities, 1
City
• Cagayan is famous or known for milk candy, Callao
Caves, and Pinacanauan River
• Cagayan is a shortened term for “catagayan”, a place
where the local plant called “tagay” grows.

FESTIVAL

Sambali Festival

The Sambali or Piat Sambali Festival is celebrated


every year in Piat, Cagayan from June 23 to July 2. A
spectacle of color, form and movement and songs is to be
expected in this celebration, all brought about centuries-old
cultural traditions.

ISABELA, is the largest province on the island of Luzon in
land area. The Province of Isabela is also known as ‘The Queen
Province of the North’, ‘Top Corn Producer of the Philippines’
and ‘Rice Bowl of the North’. ​It is also known as one of the
premier provinces in the north and most progressive in the
country.

• Its capital is the city of Ilagan.


• The Isabela province is divided into 34
Municipalities, 2 Component Cities, 1 Independent
City
• Isabela was named after Isabela II, the first queen
regnant of Spain.

FESTIVAL
SABUTAN FESTIVAL

In March, Palanan holds the Sabutan Festival. The


people of Palanan are fine craftsmen who weave dyed and
natural colored strips into a variety of bags, hats, and
placemats, among other items that have both traditional and
contemporary designs. For the festival, the Sabutan products
are not only sold, these are also used as a theme and are
fashioned into costumes and décor.

QUIRINO, is a landlocked province in the Philippines located
in the Cagayan Valley Region in Luzon. Quirino, dubbed as the
“Forest Heartland of Cagayan Valley”, was created in 1971. The
province is known for its rugged topography, which makes it a
beautiful paradise for outdoor-loving travelers.

• The Quirino province is divided into 6 Municipalities:


Aglipay, Cabarroguis, Diffun, Maddela, Nagtipunan,
and Saguday.
• Its capital is Cabarroguis.
• Named after former President Elpidio Quirino, the 6th
President of the Philippines.
• Quirino is famous or known for natural attractions and
water adventures.

NUEVA VIZCAYA, is a province of the Philippines located in
the Cagayan Valley Region in Luzon. Nueva Vizcaya is often
referred to as lowland Baguio because of its pleasant climate.
The province has basically an agricultural economy with
commerce, trade, and industry contributing to its growth and
development.

• Its capital is Bayombong.


• The Nueva Vizcaya province is divided into 15
Municipalities
• Nueva Vizcaya is known as Citrus Capital of the
Philippines.

Panagyaman Festival

Panagyaman Festival is the Anniversary of the


establishment of the civil government of Nueva Vizcaya.
Activities include street parades,street dancing, cultural
shows, float parades and contests, sports events by
municipality, agro-industrial fairs, and others. It is celebrated
with parades, beauty pageant, trade shows, and agro-industrial
fair, among others.

BATANES is an archipelagic province in the Philippines
situated in the Cagayan Valley Region. Its capital is Basco,
Batanes is one of the most beautiful provinces in the
Philippines. It is also known as the “Home of the Winds”.
Batanes is the northernmost and the smallest province in the
country.

• Batanes has famous stone houses, scenic views and


Naidi Hills.
• There are 10 islands in Batanes: Batan, Dequey, Diogo,
Ditarem, Itbayat, Ivuhos, Mavulis, Misanga, Sabtang,
and Siayan.
• The Batanes province is divided into 6 Municipalities:
Basco, Itbayat, Ivana, Mahatao, Sabtang, and Uyugan.

Kulay Festival (2nd week of April) – Basco

The local government of Basco, Batanes showcased


the rich cultural heritage of Ivatans as they celebrate this
year’s Kulay festival with various cultural presentations,
unity dance performances, beauty pageant and display of
their best processed and manufactured food products.

Cagayan Valley is the large mass of land in the northeastern region of Luzon,
comprising the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and the
Batanes group of islands. It is bordered to the west by the Cordillera mountain
range, to the east by the Sierra Madre, to the south by the Caraballo Mountains,
and to the north by the Luzon Strait.

The region contains two landlocked provinces, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya,
which are ruggedly mountainous and heavily forested. Nueva Vizcaya is the
remnant of the southern province created when Cagayan Province was divided in
two in 1839.
