Luís Vaz de Camões nasceu em Lisboa, Portugal, por volta de 1524. Foi um poeta
português, considerado o maior do Classicismo.
O Livro
Os Lusíadas é uma das obras mais importantes da
literatura da língua portuguesa e foi escrita pelo poeta
português Luís Vaz de Camões, e publicada em 1572.
Ela foi inspirada nas obras clássicas a “Odisseia“, de
Homero, e a “Eneida”, de Virgílio. Ambas são epopeias
que narram as conquistas do povo grego.
No caso dos Lusíadas, Camões narra as conquistas do
povo português na época das grandes navegações.

No capítulo " Pela Costa da África" é relatado que o navio

parte das Ilhas Canárias em uma viagem de 4 meses até que
chegam na África.Desembarcam em uma baía, alí se instalam
para fazer anotações sobre o Sol e constatam que ja
passaram do Trópico de Capricórnio.

A peep at some distant orb has power to raise and purify our thoughts like a strain

does one good.

Apparently we had reached a great height in the atmosphere, for the sky was a dead
black, and the stars had ceased to twinkle. By the same illusion which lifts the
horizon of the sea to the level of the spectator on a hillside, the sable cloud beneath
was dished out, and the car seemed to float in the middle of an immense dark
sphere, whose upper half was strewn with silver. Apparently we had reached a great
height in the atmosphere, for the sky was a dead black, and the stars had ceased to
twinkle.
