 ¿Qué es?
Es un tipo de torno que permite mecanizar
piezas por revolución, es decir permite
transformar un sólido cualquiera en una
pieza o cuerpo bien definido en cuanto a su
forma y dimensiones. se caracteriza por
ser un torno manual, es decir, se necesita
de un operario para hacer funcionar.
 ¿Cómo
funciona?
Consiste en hacer girar el sólido a
mecanizar alrededor de su eje de
simetría y, mientras, se arranca
material en forma de viruta. De
manera que la herramienta avanza y
va cortando parte del sólido para
convertirlo en la pieza mecanizada
deseada.
