SIMPLE PRESENT

TENSE
In the simple present tense, the
verb takes the marker –s when the
subject is a singular noun or
pronoun. With plural subjects, the
verb does not take the marker –s.

Statement :
• S + V1 + O + adv of time (They, we, I and you)
• S + V1(s/es) + O + adv of time ( She, he, it)
Examples:
 I work at the bank everyday.

 She works at the bank everyday.


In negative form we put auxiliary verbs DO/DOES with not.
◦ S + do + not + V1 + O + adv of time
(DO is for they, we, I, and you)
 I do not swim twice in a week.

◦ S + does + not + V1 + O + adv of time


(Does is for she, he, and it)
 She does not swim twice in a week.
Interrogative
In interrogative form we put the auxiliary in front of the sentence.
◦ Do + S + V1 + O + adv of time ?
 Do they play tennis everyday?

◦ Does + S + V1 + O + adv of time


 Does he play tennis everyday ?
