Research Paper Structure Guide

This document provides guidance on the typical structure and content requirements for a student research paper. It discusses including an introduction that states the relevance, hypothesis, objectives and methods. The main body would have chapters on the theoretical background and practical research such as surveys. It should conclude by summarizing the results and drawing conclusions. References and an appendix with additional materials are also typically included. The document offers examples of how to describe each section to help structure a research paper.

Welcome to my presentation

• Research work and student’s

research activity
What is research and how it works?

Generally, research is the organised and

systematic method of finding answers to
questions. It is systematic because it is a process
broken up into clear steps that lead to
conclusions. Research is organised because there
is a planned structure or method used to reach
the conclusion.
Structure of scientific research work
• Title Sheet
• Contents
• Introduction
• The main part
• theoretical part
• practical part
• Conclusion
• List of resources
• Appendix
Title page
• Title page is 1 page of the work.
• The title page is not numbered. It contains the name
of the conference
• The topic of the work
• The type of the work
• The name of the section
• Information about the author (full name , grade)
• Information about the supervisor
• The place and the year of research work

Table of contents The table of contents specifies

• the main sections of the work
(introduction, chapter and paragraph
titles, conclusion, bibliography,
appendix) indicating the pages.
• The last word of each heading is
connected by an indented line to the
corresponding page number. Titles of
the table of contents must exactly
repeat the titles in the text

Structure Content requirements
Introduction The introduction is a very responsible part
of the paper, it guides the reader through
the development of the topic and also
contains important characteristics
The introduction is
the relevance of the chosen topic,
formulates the goal,
hypothesis
Objectives
Object and subject of the research
Method
Resources
Relevance of the choice of topic
• The relevance of a topic is its significance for
the development of human thinking and
practice
• Why this is an issue that needs to be explored
• Why this particular topic was chosen, why you
are interested in it
Research hypothesis
• A hypothesis is an assumed answer to a given
problem
• A hypothesis should be based on existing
theories and knowledge. It also has to be
testable, which means you can support or
refute it through scientific research methods
(such as experiments, observations and
statistical analysis of data).
• Research objectives
the choice of ways and means to achieve the
objective according to the hypothesis. The objectives
show what you are going to do.
In order to achieve our goal, we need to solve the
following tasks:
Getting to know each other
Observing
questionnaires
Research objectives
Phrase template for research work
• Study the literature on the topic
• Carry out a survey/ experiment/
observation/questionnaire
• Compare/ contrast/ analyze findings
• Draw conclusion about ….
Research methods
• Observation
• Measurement experiment
• Analysis/ synthesis
• Interview/ Questionnaire
• Reading educational, popular science and
reference books
• Searching for information on global computer
networks
Main part
Content requirements

The main part contains the information collected and processed by the author
in the course of the study
- Main facts
- Describe the research technique
- Presents the result obtained
Chapter 1 contains the results of the literature analysis and theoretical
background to the research topic
Chapter 2- 3 the practical stages of the work contains:
The interpretation of the data
Identification of the phenomena under study during the experiment
First chapter – Theoretical
are basic terms and concepts, background
• The key concepts for our study are ….
• On the official website of … we found the following
definition of the term
• The website … offers the following definition of the
concept is …
• It is generally accepted …
• Let us first turn to the history of the question …
• … as well as on the website … For the first time …
Chapter Two (practical) contains:

• Research tools
• A description of the experiment being conducted
• Ways of handling experimental data
• The data processing itself, in graphical or other form
• Conclusions on the experiment being carries out
Chapter Two (description of the study)
Phrase templates for a research work
• In order to find out … We decided to conduct a survey
… among the students/ parents of our class. The survey
was conducted through a questionnaire/ social media
survey.
• The respondents were asked the following questions: …
• The results of the survey are presented in Table 1
• In this case we can see …/we are dealing with …
• The diagram shows …
Conclusion
• Conclusion should indicate whether or not the
objective has been achieved and the practical
relevance of the work
• Conclusion summarised at
• the results of theoretical and practical
research
• conclusions are drawn
Conclusion on the chapters
Phrase – patterns for a research work

• Based on all of the above, we can state …

• All of the above enable us to draw the following
conclusions …
• As can be seen from all of the above …
• From the above it follows that …
• Summing up the intermediate results, we can say
that …
• As a result of the research we found out that …

Appendix
• Appendix should be carefully selected and illustrate the highlights of the
work. It is advisable to include supporting or supplementary materials
• Copies of rare documents
• Various questionnaires and tables
• Graphs
• Diagrams/ charts
• photographs
• drawings
Appendix are numbered. References to the appendix in the body of the
study are mandatory
The information moves from
broad to specific to broad
again as seen in this
diagram, the Introduction
and Discussion taking up the
most room in your paper
and the Methods and
Results usually being the
shortest ad most focused
sections. However, the order
in which you write your
paper will not be the same
as the final order of the
information. Let’s first look
briefly at what each section
does and then discuss how
to organize and compose
your work.
