INTRODUCTION
 Posture :

It can be defined as
the relative
alignment or
arrangement of
different parts of
the body with line of
gravity.
 FORWARD HEAD
POSTURE :
Forward head posture (FHP) is
one of the most frequently
observed postural deviation.
The forward head posture
implies that the head is in an
anterior position in relation
to the theoretical plum line
which is perpendicular to the
bodies center of gravity.
Biomechanics behind FHP

FHP increases
compressive loading
on tissues in the
cervical spine,
particularly the facet
joints and ligaments.
FACTORS MAINTAINING THE
POSTURE
1. Ligaments
2. Fascia
3. Bone
4. Joints
5. Muscles
6. Tendons
CAUSES
 Prolong use of computer or
smart phones
 slouching
 sleeping with the head raised
 carrying a heavy backpack or
purse
 driving with a hunched back
 sewing
 reading in bed
 whiplash or other injuries to the
spine
 weakness in the muscles of the
upper back
 arthritis and bone degeneration
