Postulate
Postulate
It is statements that are accepted as true without proof.
These statements can be used as reasons in proving some
mathematical statement.
POSTULATE
1. Two points are contained in exactly one line.
h Line contains points A and B
A B
2. A plane contains at least three non-collinear points.
𝐷 Through point A, B and C, there is exactly one
B
plane (plane D). Plane D contains at least three
C
A non-collinear points
Postulate
3. Through any two points, there is exactly one line
h Two points determine a line.
A B

4. Through any three non-collinear points, there is exactly one plane.

𝐷
B Through points A, B and C, there is
C exactly one plane, plane D.
A
Postulate
5. If two points lie in the plane, then the line joining them lies in that
plane.
c
B
A lies in the plane.

6. If two planes intersect, then their intersection is a line.

A Plane M and P intersect at the

intersection of two points is
B a LINE.

Activity 1
Direction: Respond to each statement and write AGREE or
DISAGREE.

1. Point, line and plane are the bases in defining other terms in
geometry.
2. Point that lie on the same line are coplanar.
3. A postulate is statement that is only accepted after it has been
proven.
4. Two points always determine a line.
5. Points, lines and planes can be molded by real life object.

Instruction:
◈Group yourselves into 3.
◈The question will flash on the screen.
◈Choose one representative to present your work.
◈You have 10 minutes to do this.
Direction:
State the postulate you would use to justify the statement made
about each figure.

1. One plane contains A, B and C

2. Only one line contains points Q and T
3. Line KL lies in plane P.
4. Plane L and plane M intersect along line n.
5. There is another point besides point A and d.
Assignment:
Direction: Use the postulate to answer the following.

1. At least how many points are contained in a line?

2. At least how many points determine exactly one plane?
3. What is the intersection of two distinct planes?
4. What is the intersection of two coplanar lines?
5. What can contain a line and a point not on the line?
