Aim: How did the British government respond to the
Industrial Revolution?

purpose as stated in the Declaration of Independence

Child Labor
Factory Act of 1833
• Illegal to hire children younger than 9 years
old.

• Children between the ages of 9 and 12 could


only work a maximum of 8 hours a day.

• Children between the ages of 13 and 17 could


work a maximum of 12 hours a day.
Women and young boys working under
dangerous conditions in coal mines
Mines Act of 1842
• No female could be employed
underground.

• No boy under the age of 10


could be employed
underground.

• Limited the workday to 10
hours for women and children
in factories.
