comes in mind is the " principles of effective
communication".
These principles guides in forming message,
its style and importance so that it becomes
more effective for the target audience.
These principles are called 7 Cs of
communication.

Clarity
What is
clarity?
Clarity implies emphasizing on a specific message or
goal at a time, rather than trying to achieve too much at
once. Clarity in communication has following features:

• It makes understanding easier.


• Complete clarity of thoughts and ideas
enhances the meaning of message.
 Clear message makes use of exact, appropriate
and concrete words
 Getting the meaning from your head to the
head of your reader (accurately) is the purpose
of clarity.
 Choose short, familiar & conversational words
 Choose precise, concrete and familiar words

of Clarity?
Clarity is important in communication for several
reasons. First, it allows the message to be
understood by the person receiving it. If the
message is not clear, the person may misinterpret it,
which can lead to misunderstandings. Second, clarity
prevents misunderstanding and conflict.

Conciseness

conciseness?
 Conciseness means communicating what you
want to convey in least possible words.
Conciseness is a necessity for effective
communication. Concise communication has
following features:
• It is both time-saving as well as cost-saving.
• It underlines and highlights the main message.
• Concise communication provides short and essential message
in limited words to the audience.
• Concise message is more appealing and comprehensible to the
audience.

Concise communication provides short and essential
message in limited words to the audience. Concise
message is more appealing and comprehensible to the
audience. Concise message is non-repetitive in nature.
3. Principle

Concreteness
What is
concreteness?
Communicating concretely means being specific,
definite, and vivid rather than vague and general. Often it
means using donatives (direct, explicit, often dictionary
based) rather than connotative words (ideas or notions
suggested by or associated with a word or phrase).
• Use specific facts and figures.
• Put action into words.
• Choose vivid image building words by comparison &
figurative language.
• Use more adjectives and adverbs.

Concreteness is an aspect of communication that
means being specific, definite, and vivid rather

What is
correctness?
Correctness means the accuracy of thoughts, figures,
and words. If the given information is not correctly
conveyed, the sender will lose reliability. While
communicating we should be careful about the
correct use of grammar, message composition and
appropriate words.
At the core of correctness is proper grammar, punctuation, and
spelling. However a message may be perfect grammatically
mechanically but still insult or lose a customer.

language in the message.

5. Principle

Coherent
What is
coherent?
Coherence means, tying together several ideas, under one
main topic in any paragraph. It is equally essential for good
written communication.
Coherent communication is logical. A well-planned,
logical, and sequential manner of communication. There
should be a good connection with the main topic and the
flow should be consistent.
 Relation and clarity are the two important aspects of
coherence.

Coherent?
These 5 Rules can

Rule number one is stick to the topic!

1) If you have many issues to address,


compartmentalize them.
2) Use connecting words and phrases to connect
sentences and paragraphs well.
3) The message should be structured logically.
4) Sequence of events should be mentioned in
chronological order.

Completeness
What is
completeness?
The message must be complete. It should
convey all the facts required by the
audience. The sender of the message must
take into consideration the receiver and
should communicate all the facts and
figures related to the message.
Correctness in communication implies that there are no
grammatical errors in communication. Correct
communication has following features:

o The message is exact, correct and well-timed.


o If the communication is correct, it boosts up the
confidence level.
o Correct message has greater impact on the audience/
readers.
o It checks for the precision and accurateness of facts and
figures used in the message.

of Completeness?
A complete communication always gives additional
information wherever required. It leaves no
questions in the mind of receiver. Complete
communication helps in better decision-making by the
audience/readers/receivers of message as they get all
desired and crucial information. It persuades the
audience.
7. Principle
of
Courteous
What is
courteous?
 Courtesy in message implies the message should show the
sender's expression as well as should respect the receiver.
The sender of the message should be sincerely polite,
judicious, reflective and enthusiastic. Courteous message
has following features:
• Courtesy implies taking into consideration both
viewpoints as well as feelings of the receiver of the
message.
• Courteous message is positive and focused at the
