What Is Employee Life-Cycle

• The Employee Life Cycle is a process used by organizations to understand and

manage the various stages and transitions an employee goes through during
their tenure with the company.

• It provides a structured approach to human resource management, from the

initial attraction of potential candidates to their eventual departure from the
organization.

• The employee life cycle is essential to HR because it helps them understand

how well employees are doing in their roles, and where they need help.
History Employee Life-Cycle

• Early- 20th Century: The concept of managing employees through various stages, from
recruitment to retirement, began to emerge with the Industrial Revolution and the
growth of large organizations.
• Mid-20th Century: HR departments become more prominent, focusing on hiring, training,
and compliance. The employee life cycle is largely linear and structured.
• Late 20th Century: The emergence of technology, globalization, and changing workforce
dynamics leads to a shift in HR practices. The employee life cycle becomes more flexible,
emphasizing talent development and retention.
• 21st Century: The digital age brings about significant changes, with HR software and
analytics playing a crucial role. The employee life cycle is now seen as a continuous loop,
with an emphasis on employee engagement, feedback, and career growth.
• Present Day: The Employee Life Cycle continues to evolve, with an increased focus on
employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, and remote work arrangements due to
global events like the COVID-19 pandemic.
