WHO STATED PASCAL’S LAW?
A French Mathematician Blaise Pascal
stated the principle of Pascal’s Law in 1653.
It states that pressure applied to an enclosed
fluid will be transmitted without a change in
magnitude to every point if the fluid and the
walls of the container. The pressure at any
point in the fluid is equal in all directions.
APPLICATIONS OF PASCAL’S
LAW
1. Hydraulic Lift
2. Hydraulic Pumps
3. Syringes
4. Pistons of a Car
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF
PASCAL’S LAW
Pascal's law is used in the making of hydraulic
pumps used by automobile industries. It is also
widely applied in pressing oils such as olive oil and
hazelnut oil, calibration of pressure gauges and also
in devices like jackhammer's, paint sprayers and on
brakes of trucks.

SAMPLE PROBLEM
Two pistons of a hydraulic lift have diameters of 60 cm and 5 cm.
What is the force exerted by the larger piston when 50 N is placed
on the smaller piston?
r=
Area of smaller piston, A1 =

Area of bigger piston, A2 =

SOLUTION:
=

Therefore, the force exerted by the

larger piston is 7200 N.
