ANGKLUNG

 The angklung is a musical instrument from west java,


Indonesia made of a varying number of bamboo tubes
attached to a bamboo frame, The tubes are carved to
have a resonant pitch when struck and are tuned to
octaves, like Western Handbells. The base of the
frame is held in one hand, while the other hand
shakes the instrument, causing a repeating note to
sound. Each performer in an angklung ensemble is
typically responsible for just one pitch, sounding their
individual angklung at the appropriate times to
produce complete melodies

 The angklung is popular throughout the world but it is not popular in Indonesia instead the
only area where angklung is popular in Indonesia is in Bali
 The angklung has been played by Sundanese people for over 500 years
 The word for the instrument angklung came from the Sundanese word “angkloeng-
angkloengan” which is taken from the instrument for its “klong” sound every time it is
shaken.
 Angklung thus means incomplete tone
 In November 2010 UNESCO recognized angklung as part of Indonesian culture and granted it
as an interesting/masterpiece instrument.
ANGKLUNG BADUD TRADITION

 The angklung badud tradition is a tradition that originated from margajaya village in cijulang
district. The tradition has a purpose of playing angklung in order to please the god called
“Dewa sri” which is the goddess of fertility in Indonesia so she would bless their crops, lands,
and lives.
