WORK

PROBLEMS
SAMPLE PROBLEMS :

1. A person pulls a block 2 meter along a horizontal

surface by a constant force of 20 Newton.
Determine the work done by force acting on the block.

Given : Solution :
d = 2 meter W=Fx d
F = 20 Newton = ( 20 Newton )( 2 meter)
Req'd : W = ? = 40 N- m or 40 Joules
SAMPLE PROBLEMS :

2. A box is lifted vertically 1.5 meter and is then held

there. The box has a weight of 100 Newton.
How much work is being done in holding the box?

Given : Solution :
F = 100 Newton W=Fxd
d = 1.5 meter = ( 100 Newton)(1.5 meter)
Req'd : W = ? = 150 N-m or 150 Joules
SAMPLE PROBLEMS :

3. Kevin lifts 150 kg object at a distance of 2 meter.

How much work he has done?

Given : Solution :
m = 150 kg F=mxa
d = 2 meter = (150 kg )(9.8 m/s2)
Req'd : W = ? = 1 470 Newton
W=Fxd
= (1 470 N)( 2 meter)
= 2 940 Joules or
2.94 kJ
SAMPLE PROBLEMS :

4. Steven military presses 80 kg at a distance of

0.5 meter. How much work he has done ?

Given : Solution :
m = 80 kg F=mxa
d = 0.5 meter =(80 kg )(9.8 m/s2)
Req'd : W = ? = 784 Newton
W=F xd
= (784 N)(0.5 meter)
= 392 Joules
EXERCISES :

1. How much work is done by the stickman that pushes

a box 5 meters with a force of 12 N forward?

2. The baseball player throws a ball with a force of 10 N.

The ball travels 20 meters. What is the total work?

3. How much work is done when Allen applies a force

of 200 N to drag a crate 8 meters across the
warehouse floor?
EXERCISES :

4. Stephanie curls 40 kg a distance of 0.2 meter.

How much work has she done?

5. Rob lifts a 15 kg dumb bell at a distance of 0.6 meter.

He does this 30 times. How much work has he done?
