COMMERCIAL FARMING
EXTENSIVE GRAIN
FARMING
It is practiced in those parts of the world where the population is less and land
is available plenty.
 Little human labour is employed as machines do all the work.
 All the produce is stored in large silos before being packed and shipped.
 The main crop harvested in extensive grain farming techniques is wheat.
 Some other crops are grown in rotation, off-screen to enhance soil fertility.
PLANTATION FARMING
 The growing and processing of a single cash crop on a very large scale mainly
for export is known as plantation farming.
 Large estates are needed to generate large yields to export and are managed by
private companies.
 According to the physical conditions crops are chosen and all work from
ploughing to processing of the crop is organized on an extremely efficient and
scientific basis.
 The crop takes three to six years to mature and after a period of production
requires replanting.
 This finished product is traded both nationally and internationally.
