Aims and objective of the act rights of consumer protection council
Who is consumer ?

• A any person who buys any good for a consideration


• a) which has been paid or promised to be paid or
• b) partly paid and partly promised to be paid or
• c)under any system of deferred payment

A consumer also includes any user of such goods other than the person
who buys good for consideration paid or promise to pay or under any
other system or deferred payment when such use is made with the
approval if such person, but does not includes a person who obtain such
goods for resale or for any commercial purpose
Or
• It means any person who hires or avails or any service for a consideration
• A) which has been paid or promised to be paid or
• B)partly paid and partly promised to be paid or
• C)under any system of deferred payment

• A consumer also includes any beneficiary of such service other than the
person who hires or avails of the service for consideration . When such
services are availed of with the approval of the first mentioned person
but does not include a person who avialas of such servides for any
commercial purpose
Meaning of consumer protection :

• It means protection the consumer from unfair and restrictive trade


practice adopted by the seller of goods and services
Aims and objectives of the Act

• The act aims to provide better protection of interest of the consumer


• The act aims to promotes and protect the rights of consumer.
• To make provision for the establishment of consumer councils and
other authorities for the settlement of consumer disputes.

• To set up quasi-judicial machinery for speedy and correct redressal of


consumer disputes.
Rights of consumers

• Some of the most important right for the consumer under the act
• 1.right to safety : every consumer has a right to protected against the marketing of goods
and services which are hazardous to life and property.
• 2.right to information : every consumer has a right to be informed about the quality purity
standard and price of goods and services so as to protect him against unfair trade practice.
• 3. right to choose :- every consumer has right to choose from the variety of goods and
services at competitive price.
• 4. Right to be heard:Every consumer has a right to be heard and to be assured that
consumer’s interest will receive due consideration at appropriate forum.

• 5. Right to seek redressal : Every consumer has a right to seek redressal against unfair trade
practice or restrictive trade practices or unscrupulous exploitation of consumers.
Rights of consumer :

• 6 Right to consumer Education : every consumer has right to


consumer Education. A consumer has right to know about rights as
consumer. He is entitled to obtain knowledge of all remedies availalbe
to him against the exploitation by the manufacturer and trade of
goods and services.
