AGRICULTURAL POLICY CONCEPT

Definition of terms

Agricultural Policy
• describes a set of laws relating to domestic agriculture
and imports of foreign agricultural products.

Food security
• is defined when all people, at all times, have physical and
economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that
meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an
active and healthy life.
Price Instability
• problem faced by producers and it changes in supply and
demand that affects farm prices.

Climate Change Adaptation


• is the process of adjusting to current or expected
effects of climate change
Agrarian Reform
• means the redistribution of lands, regardless of crops or
fruits produced to farmers and regular farmworkers who
are landless, irrespective of tenurial arrangement and
others.

Macro-economics
• It is a branch of economics that studies how an overall
economy—the markets, businesses, consumers, and
governments—behave.
Agricultural Enterprise or Agricultural Activity
• the cultivation of the soil, planting of crops, growing of fruit
trees, raising of livestock, poultry or fish, including the
harvesting of such farm products, and other farm activities

Trade Liberalization
• It is the removal or reduction of restrictions or barriers on
the free exchange of goods between nations.
Agricultural Land
• refers to land devoted to agricultural activity

Agricultural Credit
• special credit advanced to farmers, agricultural producers,
and others to finance agricultural transactions.
Idle or Abandoned Land
• refers to any agricultural land not cultivated, tilled or
developed to produce any crop nor devoted to any
specific economic purpose continuously for a period of
three (3) years

Animal Welfare
• refers to the state of the animal; the treatment that an
animal receives is covered by other terms such as animal
care, animal husbandry, and humane treatment.
Farmer
• refers to a natural person whose primary livelihood is
cultivation of land or production of agricultural crops

Farm worker
• natural person who renders services for value as an
employee or laborer in an agricultural enterprise
Cooperative
• refer to organizations composed primarily of small
agricultural producers, farmer, farmworkers or other
agrarian beneficiaries.

Tariff
• is a tax imposed by a government on goods and services
imported from other countries that serves to increase the
price and make imports less desirable, or at least less
competitive, versus domestic goods and services
