-dedicated to his son Nichomachus
-became a foundation of Aristotle's ethics
composed of ten books

 Arete- concept in achieving a good life/Eudaimonia or

 Arete (Greek) means 'excellence of any kind' in terms of
intellectual and moral virtues

2. Moral virtue - constant practice of an action that promotes
good life

Example: courage becomes a virtue when it is properly


displayed in the right time, right manner, and right place in the
face of danger
