TRAINING
OBJECTIVE
Introduce and facilitate the importance of
knowing the principles of the teaching and
learning cycle and the reason behind
keeping the records.
TEACHING AND LEARNING CYCLE
consists of five stages:
Identify
learning
needs

Evaluate
Plan
and quality
learning
assure

Deliver
Assess teaching
learning and aid
learning
The purpose of knowing about the
principles of the teaching and learning
cycle is:

This cycle helps us plan ahead and communicate

effectively. Teachers and students work together to achieve
each stage, and after completing this cycle, it can guide us
to identify learners’ needs.
1. Identify learner needs

In this stage we, as trainers, identify the needs of learners,

ourselves and our organization.
The Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be created upon:
• Application
• Enrollment processes
• Initial assessments
2. Plan Learning

• Lesson Plan & Scheme of Work

• Well prepared
• Recourses are available
• Ready to teach/train

*This may involve working with others.

3. Deliver Teaching and Aid Learning

The primary goal is to facilitate a smooth and meaningful

learning experience for your students.
Trainers need to make sure that the content is presented at
the right level of complexity with well-chosen resources
and that it is designed to maximize the knowledge and
skills the learners gain from each lesson.
4. Assess Learning

Make sure that your learners have gained the knowledge

and skills that were intended in the course.
To decide whether that goal has been achieved, you may
ask questions or invigilate a formal assessment.
5. Evaluate and Quality Assure

Obtain evaluation from your learners, yourself and others,

and ask yourself “is it working?”
From these you can then decide whether your methods of
teaching need to be changed or not.
Record keeping

Trainers keep the records of the following at every stage:

• Learner needs: application forms, learning style results and induction forms
• Plan learning: schemes of work and lesson plans & ILPS
• Deliver teaching & aid learning: attendance registers, accident report forms etc.
• Assess Learning: assessment plans, grading sheets, evaluation forms, evidence of course
work and portfolio.
• Evaluate and Quality Assure: IQA & EQA reports, certification data, teacher’s lesson
evaluation etc.
Questions?
Questions for you!

• Who is responsible for the effectiveness of the Teaching

and Learning Cycle?

• What do we, as trainers, do when the cycle is

completed?
Summary

Trainers need to know about the cycle of Teaching and

Learning in order to teach and convey what’s intended in
an effective way. Both Trainers and Learners are
responsible for its effectiveness. Record Keeping should be
implemented at all stages.
