 Introductions
To condemn means to express strong disapproval or censure of
someone or something. It can refer to publicly criticizing or
denouncing an action, behavior, or belief as wrong, immoral, or
unacceptable. When someone is condemned, it usually implies a
judgment or verdict has been made about them, and they are
being held responsible or accountable for their actions.
Condemnation can also refer to a legal process whereby someone
is found guilty of a crime and sentenced accordingly.
Introduction

Journalists play a central role in fostering a society based on

the open discussion of facts and the pursuit of the truth, as
opposed to one based on rumor, prejudice, and the naked
exercise of power. As a result, journalists are often literally in
the line of fire and deserve special protection.

Unidentified gunmen on Monday evening fatally shot a hard-hitting
radio commentator in Las Pinas, a city in Metro Manila, the latest in a
long line of targeted killings of journalists in the Philippines. Percival
Mabasa, popularly known on-air and online as Percy Lapid, was the
second journalist killed since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. took office
on June 30.

Percy Lapid Mabasa, who was better known by his professional

name, Percy Lapid, spent his 35-year career as a journalist
highlighting corruption among the powerful. His killing has
amplified calls for the authorities to finally act on the longstanding
and deadly threats facing media workers in the Philippines.
 PERSONAL LIFE AND EDUCATION
He accomplished his elementary schooling in 1968 at Porac Central School
and his secondary schooling was completed in 1972 at Porac's St. Catherine
Academy..
Percival Carag Mabasa (March 14, 1959 – October 3, 2022),known
professionally as Percy Lapid was a Filipino journalist and radio broadcaster.He
was a critic of President Bongbong Marcos and his predecessor, Rodrigo
Duterte.He hosted the radio program Lapid Fire on DWBL, where he tackled
cases of corruption.
Lapid was vocal against the dangers of red-tagging, a practice where the
government attempts to silence journalists and other dissenters by accusing
them of being communists. He was also outspoken against disinformation and
the government's war on drugs.
 CASES OF LAPID

Percy Mabasa–better known as Percy Lapid–was gunned down inside his

vehicle by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in Las Piñas City on the
night of Monday, October 3, according to the national police and news
reports. He was on his way to work at the time, his brother Roy Mabasa said
on Facebook.
A motorcycle with two people on board approached Lapid's vehicle and
the gunman from this motorcycle fired two shots at Lapid, killing Lapid
instantly.Lapid's vehicle was about 50 meters from the gate when the
incident occourred.
 FURTHER INVESTAGATION

Police said the assailants were riding a motorcycle, the modus operandi for
many targeted killings in the Philippines. These so-called “riding in tandem”
hitmen are rarely caught and brought to justice. Police said the gunmen shot
Mabasa twice while he was inside his vehicle. Authorities have not identified
any suspect nor disclosed a motive for the murder.
 Reflection

After Percy Lapid Latest News of the death spread, people demand justice for
him. We are strongly against crime and criminal-like activities. Percy was a
fearless broadcaster, a great hero. We also hope that he gets justice and his
killers are penalized soon. Many followers of him paid tributes and expressed
sympathy for his family.
