Author’s Background

• William Shakespeare was a renowned


poet, playwright, and actor
A playwright is a person who writes plays.

• He was born and baptized on April 26,


1564. Then died on April 23, 1616 at 52
years old.

• He lived in a house in Stratford-upon-


Avon, Warwickshire, England.

• He is often called “England’s National


Poet”

• He is the THIRD of eight children in his


family.
Summary of the 7 Ages Of Man
.

- The monologue compares the world to a stage in a theatre, where men and women play
different roles and pass through seven ages. The speech focuses on the experiences of men
and can be divided into seven stages.

The first stage is that of an infant or baby, where the baby cries and whines before vomiting.

In the second stage, the man plays the role of a small boy or child, holding a school bag and
walking slowly due to his dislike of school.

In the third stage, the man becomes passionately in love, singing a sad song about love.
Summary of the 7 Ages Of Man

In the fourth stage, the man plays the role of a soldier, ambitious to seek honor and risk
dangers like cannons in war.

In the fifth stage, the man becomes a justice or judge, using his experience and knowledge to
offer wise advice and good decisions.

In the sixth stage, the man becomes a pantaloon or weak old man, with high voices and
dependence on adults.

In the seventh stage, the old man loses his memory, hearing, and control of his senses before
dying. The speech highlights the importance of understanding and adapting to different stages
of life for both men and women.
