CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION

oThe king of Vijayanagar kingdom was at the top of the administration.


o He was the commander-in-chief of the army, the highest administrator
and the chief justice.
KING

oThe aim of the Vijayanagar administration was to do the welfare of his


subjects.
o Krishna Deva Raya was the most important king of Vijayanagar Empire.
MINISTERS

o To assist the king in the affairs of administration of Vijayanagar empire,


there was a council of ministers.
o There were almost six to eight ministers who were selected.
COURT

oThe Vijayanagar kings held the court in very grand and pompous style.
oVijayanagar durbar was a very big affair.
PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATION

o A province was called Prant, or Rajya.


oFor purpose of administration, the empire was divided into 6 provinces.
VILLAGE ADMINISTRATION

oThe lowest unit of administration of Vijayanagar Empire was the villages.


o There was a village assembly in every village which practically
functioned like the modern village panchayats.
JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION

•The king was at the top of the judiciary. All cases were judged by him.
•The villages had their own village Assembly or Panchayats which
adjudicated the cases of the village people.
MILITARY ADMINISTRATION

oThe king of Vijaynagar had to maintain a huge army.


oThe commander-in-chief managed the military establishment.
