CURRICULUM
ADAPTATION

Daniela R. Sicosana
Remedial teachers should adapt
the curriculum to suit students’
learning characteristics and
abilities, setting easy-to-achieve
teaching objectives.
Teachers should not rely solely on
textbooks, but classify content into
core and non-core aspects based on
objectives and abilities. Cross-
curricular teaching recommendations
should be adopted, allowing more
time for effective activities.
Teachers should use all teaching
materials, including textbooks,
supplementary materials, and
materials from the internet,
newspapers, magazines, and
references provided by the Education
Department, to enhance learning
effectiveness.
Department may help teachers
design interesting and
enjoyable activities to enhance
pupils’effectiveness of
learning.

What is Teaching Plan?

A teaching plan is a document

that outlines the structure and
details of a single session.
A good teaching plan is a
comprehensive write-up of the step-
by-step teaching methods, the
estimated duration of each segment
of teaching, and the materials and
resources needed for the session.
Types of Teaching Plan

Long Term – monthly or yearly

Short Term – weekly or daily
Aspects to form a Teaching Plan
1. Contents of activities
2. Objectives of curriculum content
3. Creation of the environment
When formulating teaching plans,
teachers are advised to following 2
aspects into consideration:
1. Teachers should formulate practical
teaching objects that meet on the
Learning characteristics and weaknesses.
2. Teachers should decide whether the
learning Hems should be thought. On in
details or in brief.
Teachers may deliver the teaching content
by means of modules, themes, learning
aspects or teaching items and work out the
teaching plans accordingly. Post-lesson
reviews should focus on the teaching
process and students’ performance, with
specific and critical evaluations made.
Examples of main points for review are as
follows:
• the common difficulties of students;
• the effectiveness of teaching strategies and
class activities to help students understand the
teaching contents, grasp the main points and
apply what they have learned; and
• issues of concern (e.g. basic knowledge that
requires enrichment, the need to break down or
rearrange teaching steps, etc.)
