AN INTRO...
A film crew is a group of people, hired by a production company, for the purpose
of producing a film or motion picture.
The crew is distinguished from the cast, as the cast are understood to be
the actors who appear in front of the camera or provide voices for characters in the
film.
DIRECTION-
PRODUCTION
A director is the person who directs the making
of a film. The director most often has the highest
authority on a film set.

Production is generally not considered a

department as such, but as a series of functional
groups. These include the film's producers and
executive producers and production office staff
such as the production manager, the production
coordinator, and their assistants, etc.
LOCATION
Location manager oversees the locations department
and its staff, typically reporting directly to the
production manager or assistant director.

Location manager is responsible for final clearing a

location for filming and must often assist production
and finance departments in maintaining budget
management.
CAMERA
The director of photography is in charge of the look
of the "frame" of the movie shots, hence the name
"photography". They are the chief of the camera
and lighting crew of the film.
The term cinematographer is usually synonymous
with director of photography, though some
professionals insist this only applies when the
director of photography and camera operator are
the same person.
LIGHTING
The gaffer is the head of the lighting department,
responsible for the design of the lighting plan for a
production. Sometimes the gaffer is credited as chief
lighting technician.

The best boy electric is the chief assistant to the

gaffer. They are not usually on set, but dealing with
upkeep of the lighting truck, rentals, manpower, and
other logistics.

the actor or object of focus from behind.

sources within a specific location

production designer, and more directly oversees
artists and craftspeople.
Standby art director: The standby art director
monitors the art department's work on set during
filming. They work closely with the standby painters
and standby carpenters.
SETS AND

Set dresser: The set dressers apply and remove the
"dressing"; i.e., furniture, carpets, wall signs,
everything one would find in a location.
Greensmen: The greensman or greensperson is a
specialized set dresser dealing with the artistic
arrangement or landscape design of plant material,
sometimes real and sometimes artificial.
Weapons master: The weapons master, or armorer,
is a specialized prop technician who deals with
firearms.
COSTUME DEPARTMENT
Costume supervisor: The costume supervisor works
closely with the designer. In addition to helping with the
design of the costumes, they manage the wardrobe
workspace.
Cutter: A costume technician who fits or tailors costumes,
usually on set. They might also be called fitter,
seamstress, or tailor. Some celebrity actors have favorite
cutters.
MAKE-UP ARTISTS
Hair and make-up: Some actors or actresses have
personal makeup artists or hair stylists.

Key make-up artist: The key makeup artist is the

department head who answers directly to the director
and production designer. They are responsible for
planning makeup designs for all leading and supporting

Production sound mixer : The production sound
mixer is the head of the sound department on

SFX CREW
The special effects department oversees the
mechanical effects that create optical illusions
during live-action shooting. It is not to be confused
with the visual effects department, which adds
photographic effects to the film after production.

device. This is achieved by blowing open a pre-
scored hole on the actor's clothing and bursting a
fake blood packet with a small explosion.

digitally assembling multiple images to make a final
image, typically for print, motion pictures or screen
display.
