LIFE PROCESSES

Living things have three life processes: nutrition, sensitivity, and reproduction.
NUTRITION
• All living things need food to grow. Living things get their food through nutrition.
• Animals, fungi, and micro-organisms get their food from other living things.
• Plants make their food from the soil, air, and sunlight.
SENSITIVITY
• Living things use their senses to get information. Then they react to this information. This
is sensitivity.
REPRODUCTION

• Living things reproduce. There are

different types of reproduction.
• Some animals are born from their
mother’s wombs.
• Other animals hatch from eggs.
• Plant sprout from seeds.
PLANTS ARE
LIVING THINGS

• Plants are living things. They begin life,

grow, and die. They make their own
food. They reproduce. They are
sensitive to light.
THE PARTS OF
A PLANT
• All plants have roots, a stem,
and leaves.
• The roots of a plant grow
underground. They hold the
plant in the ground. A plant
receives water and minerals
through its roots.
THE PARTS OF
A PLANT
• The stem of a plant grows above
ground. Some stems are hard.
Other stems are soft.
• Trees and shrubs have hard,
wood stems called trunks. These
stems have branches.
• Grasses have soft, flexible stems.

Leaves grow from stems or
branches. Many leaves are
green. There are different
types of leaves.
