OUTLINE
• Introduction
• Folding in median plain/longitudinal folding
• Head Folding
• Effect of Head Folding
• Tail Folding and effect
• Folding in Horizontal plane/Lateral folding
• Effects of lateral folding
Introduction
• FOLDING is an event that brings about conversion of trilaminar
embryonic disc to cylindrical embryo and somewhat definitive human
shape
• Folding result from geometrical growth of the embryo in some region
compare to some region. The growth rate is not uniform in every part
of the embryo, more the cranio-caudal axis
• The folding occur concurrent in the cranio-caudal axis(median plane)
and horizontal axis(plane) bringing head & tail folding and lateral
folding
FOLDING IN MEDIAN
PLAIN/Longitudinal folding
• Folding in this plain produces
Head and tail folding
In head folding, the cranial region move ventrally
While in tail folding the caudal region move also ventrally
Head Folding
• This and other folding starts at the beginning of the fourth week
