Presentation outlines
 Medical Imaging Instrument such as;
 Digital X-ray
 Ultrasound
 Fluoroscopy
 PACS
 Radiographic cassettes and screen-film
 Uses of these instruments
X-ray room
• An X-ray room is a specially designed room in a medical
facility that is used for performing X-ray imaging procedures.
The room is equipped with X-ray machines and other
necessary equipment for conducting diagnostic tests on
patients.
Instrument Found In Imaging Unit
• Digital X-ray is an advanced imaging technique that uses
digital detectors to capture X-ray images of the body.
• It convert X-ray energy into electrical signals that can be
processed and visualized on a computer.
Functions of Digital X-ray
•Diagnosis and Imaging:It enables the visualization of bones,
lungs, organs, and soft tissues, helping healthcare professionals
diagnose various conditions such as fractures, infections, tumors,
lung diseases, and more.
•Quick Image Availability: Digital X-ray systems provide
immediate image availability since the X-ray images are acquired
and viewed digitally.
•Image Storage and Sharing: its images can be stored
electronically in PACS and allows for easy retrieval and sharing
of images between healthcare professionals, leading to improved
collaboration and communication.
•Image Manipulation and Analysis: Digital X-ray images can
be manipulated digitally, allowing for zooming, rotation,
measurement, and annotation of specific areas of interest.
Instrument Found In Image Unit....
 X-ray protective lead is used to protect the patients and
healthcare workers from unnecessary radiation exposure to
reduce the risk of radiation-induced cancer and problems
associated with prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation.
 for healthcare worker for pateint esecially pregnant mother
Instrument Found In Image Unit....
• Dosimeter is a device used to measure and monitor the
amount of radiation to which an individual is exposed.
• This is particularly important for individuals who work in
radiation-prone environments, such as radiologists, nuclear
medicine technicians, or X-ray technicians.
Ultrasound
 Ultrasound, also known as Sonography, is a medical imaging
technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to generate
real-time images of the body's structures and organs.
Function of Ultrasound
 Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves:
 To produce pictures of the inside of the body.
 It helps diagnose the causes of pain, swelling and infection in
the body's internal organs
 To examine an unborn child (fetus) in pregnant women.
 In infants, doctors commonly use ultrasound to evaluate the
brain, hips, and spine.
 It also helps guide biopsies, diagnose heart conditions, and
assess damage after a heart attack.
Fluoroscopy
• Fluoroscopy is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays
to obtain real-time moving images of the internal structures
of the body.
Fluoroscopy........
 Fluoroscopy is used:
 To guide medical procedures, such as
catheterization, joint injections, and biopsies.
 To diagnostic tests, such as barium swallows or
enemas, to examine the digestive tract.
 It is a valuable tool for diagnosing and treating a
wide range of medical conditions.
 However, it does expose patients to ionizing
radiation, so it should only be used when necessary
and with appropriate safety measures in place.
PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
• PACS is a medical imaging technology that is used to store,
retrieve, and distribute digital images and related patient
information.
Picture Archiving and Communication System......
• PACS is a comprehensive system that includes hardware,
software, and network components that work together to
manage medical images.
• It is used to manage the vast amount of medical images
generated by X-ray and allows radiologists and other medical
professionals to access and view these images from any
location, enabling faster and more accurate diagnoses.
• It also enables remote consultations between radiologists and
other medical professionals, which can improve patient
outcomes.
• It replaces hard-copy based means of managing medical
images, such as film archives.
Radiographic cassettes and screen-film
 Radiographic cassettes and screen-film is a device used in
traditional X-ray imaging that contains a sheet of film and two
screens that are designed to emit light when exposed to X-
rays.
Radiographic cassettes and screen-
film........
 Radiographic cassettes and screens is to capture and
enhance the X-ray image produced by the machine.
 The cassette is a rectangular container that holds a special
film or digital imaging plate, while the screen is a sheet of
material that is placed inside the cassette and helps to enhance
the image quality.
 The cassette holds the film or imaging plate in place, while the
screen helps to amplify the X-ray signal to produce a clearer
image.
 Screen film cassettes are commonly used in medical imaging
for a variety of purposes, including diagnosing bone fractures,
detecting tumors or other abnormalities in soft tissue, and
monitoring the progression of certain diseases.
Conclusion
 Overall, medical imaging works by capturing different types of
energy as they interact with the body's internal structures, and
then processing this data to create detailed visual representations
that can be used for diagnosis, treatment planning, and
monitoring of medical conditions.
 Instrumentation in medical devices such as X-ray, ultrasound,
and fluoroscopy has revolutionized the field of medical imaging.
 These technologies have greatly improved the accuracy and
efficiency of diagnosing various medical conditions, while also
reducing the amount of radiation exposure for patients and
healthcare providers.
 However, each modality has its own unique advantages and
limitations, and healthcare professionals must carefully consider
which technology is best suited for each individual patient and
medical situation.
