The document discusses human relationships with the environment from several perspectives. It first asks the reader to imagine walking in Daet and experiencing the sun, river, and traffic. It then discusses how humans have historically viewed the environment as subordinate but recognizes humanity's complete dependence on the environment. The document later introduces the concept of "Deep Ecology," which emphasizes humanity's duties and responsibilities to the environment given our intellectual abilities. It encourages realizing that nature, not humanity, is the center of the universe. Finally, it provides activities like writing songs and crafting bottle bins to promote environmental advocacy.

AND THE ENVIRONMENT IMAGINING REALITY Close your eyes and imagine this scenario.
You are walking on the bridge of
Daet at 10 in the morning. The sun is shining brightly but you forgot to bring your umbrella. How does the sun feel in your skin? Close your eyes and imagine this scenario.
As you kept on walking, you caught a
glance of the Daet River. How does it look? After crossing Daet bridge, you continued on to get to the grocery mart. You looked on the traffic head. Was it congested? How is the smell of air on your nose? HUMAN PERSON AND THE ENVIRONMENT Describe the condition of the environment, particularly in the Philippines, through a song.
OBJECTIVE Realize the necessity of climate justice
and proper stewardship of the environment through a song. S Demonstrate environmental advocacy through a song. ON SUPERIORITY YET COMPLETE DEPENDENCY Human beings think highly of themselves. Even philosophers like Plato and Aristotle assumed the superiority of humans towards other living beings.
And yet, in order to survive, humanity depend on
its environment, sometimes even at its mercy. But even back then, humans exploit the utility of the environment. It’s as if we see the environment as slaves to our whims and supposed “intelligence”.
Philosopher Martin Heidegger called such thinking as
STANDING RESERVE. That when we see the river, we see it as a place for our laundry, to clean our bodies with, but not as it is--a river. DEEP ECOLOGY Coined by Norwegian philosopher, Arne Ness in 1973. What is Deep He basically opposed the hierarchical notion Ecology? of living beings by ancient philosophers and some religions. He emphasized the link and interdependence of humans, animal, plants, and the world. This means to realize our duties and responsibilities as a specie with great What is Deep intellectual capacities to our environment. Ecology? To eradicate the perception of being the center of the universe (geocentric), and cultivate the fact that there are far more important things than ourselves. IMAGINING OUR FUTURE JOURNAL ENTRY #4
