compared to any other planet in the solar system? PICTURE ANALYSIS
A B C D
• Describe the picture. What do
you observe? (a, b, c and d) • What can you infer from this picture? (a, b, c and d) OBJECTIV Describe and define the Earth’s four subsystems operationally. ES Explain that the Earth is consists of four subsystems, across whose boundaries matter and energy flow. Construct a Venn diagram depicting the Earth’s four subsystems. Compare the Earth’s four subsystems and their relationship through the use of Venn diagram. Value the importance of taking care of these Earth’s four subsystems and that if one is being altered, others will be affected. Earth as a System Activity: Group 1. Construction of the Venn diagram depicting the Earth’s four subsystems.`` Group 2. Compare the Earth’s four subsystems by giving their similarities and differences among each other. Group 3. Explain the relationships among these Earth’s four Subsystems through class presentation. Earth’s Four System Atmosphere
A gaseous sphere and it
envelopes the Earth,
Consists of a mixture of gases
composed primarily of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. The atmosphere is divided into several layers and among the layers is the stratosphere that contains the ozone layer which protects the organisms in the biosphere from the sun’s harmful radiation. Lithosphere The Earth's solid surface, often called the crust of the earth. It includes continental and oceanic crust as well as the various layers of the Earth's interior. Hydrosphere
All of the water on Earth
71% of the earth is covered
by water and only 29% is terra firma The hydrosphere. About 70% of the Earth is covered with liquid water (hydrosphere) and much of it is in the form of ocean water. Only 3% of Earth's water is fresh: two-thirds are in the form of ice, and the remaining one-third is present in streams, lakes, and groundwater. The hydrosphere includes all the gaseous, liquid, and solid water of the planet earth. The hydrosphere stretches all the way from the Earth’s surface downward numerous miles into the lithosphere and high above the crust into the atmosphere. Most of the water in the atmosphere is in gaseous form and as it rises higher into the atmosphere it condenses to form clouds which fall back on earth as precipitation. Biosphere
All life on earth, including man,
and all organisms.
The life zone on our planet
distinguishes our planet from the others in the solar system. The biosphere is the set of all life forms on Earth. It covers all ecosystems—from the soil to the rainforest, from mangroves to coral reefs, and from the plankton- rich ocean surface to the deep sea. The entire ecological communities interact together with the physical aspects of the earth including the hydrosphere, lithosphere, and the atmosphere. The living things on earth interact with each other in various ways, which is well elaborated under the trophic levels of food chain – how energy is transferred in ecological systems. SYSTEM INTERACTION SYSTEM INTERACTION SYSTEM INTERACTION ANALYSE S What basic features are found on the following : atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere? In what ways does atmosphere interact with biosphere? Hydrosphere and biosphere? Lithosphere and biosphere? In terms of common features, what differs the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere from each other? In what ways are these Earth’s four subsystems similar with one another? ABSTRACTION Briefly describe and define the following: a. Atmosphere c. Lithosphere b. Hydrosphere d. Biosphere What is the implication of these Earth’s four subsystems in maintaining and supporting life? Explain your answer. Compare the following Earth’s subsystems in terms of their composition and their important features. Atmosphere c. Lithosphere Hydrosphere d. Biosphere Application Gino is a Grade 11 student from Himamaylan NHS and always speaks about how to take care the environment. He is also one of the environmental advocates in their class. Unknowingly and surprisingly, Gino is practicing the burning of leaves, papers and plastics. Answer the following based from the story. What went wrong to Gino being the model of the class environmental advocacy program? Is Gino a real environmental advocate? Yes or No. Support your answer. If you were Gino how are you going to address his real character towards the care for the environment? Suggest ways to mitigate the problem. Assessment A. Answer the correct statement below.
