Ambitious
Billy is trying to do everything briskly. He
even admired his superior at his job place
because everything there were done
fantastically brisk and he said that they
were amazing. In the paragraph, it
mentioned that briskness was one of the
common characteristic of a successful
business man. This shows that Billy had
set a goal on becoming a successful
business man
Analytical
thinker
Billy considered both the pros and cons
whether to stay at the Bell and Dragon or
at the woman’s bed and breakfast.
However, due to an unexplainable
supernatural force preventing him to
choose the pub, Billy ended up lodging at
the said bed and breakfast.
naive
Billy had ignored obvious signs of danger
from the old lady's mannerism such as
her weird taste in the arts of taxidermy,
her symptoms of forgetfulness and her
disturbing interest about him and her old
guest physique because he assumes the
clear portrayal of kindness and
gentleness was enough to prove that she
was a normal friendly old lady.
observant
Namely because as soon as the old
woman showed him his room, he
immediately noticed that the
bedspread had been taken off the bed
and the bedclothes had been neatly
turned back on one side as if it was
ready for someone to move in on the
spot.

Manipulative
The landlady always dodges or changes
the conversation topic rather than
answering the questions by Billy
whenever he is asking about the two
other guests who have stayed there
before. For instance, the scene where she
offered sugar to Billy when he was asking
the lady about Christopher Mulholland
and Gregory W.Temple. Moreover, she
intends to confuse Billy about the boy's
information by arguing that the school
Billy mentioned was not the ones they
attended.
cunning
The landlady is very smart in hiding her
true personality from her guest. She
hides behind a façade of someone who is
warm, gentle and kind but unbeknownst
to Billy and the readers she already has
calculated meticulously on her next
murder. This trait is commonly found in
the minds of a psychopath.
creepy
She makes several creepy and objectifying
comments about the boys’ appearance.
Besides that, the landlady’s personality is
creepy and weird because she seems to be
keeping a secret and says some things that
doesn’t make sense. There is also a
possibility that the landlady has killed
Christopher and Gregory, When she had
contradicting comments about their
whereabouts when talking to Billy. So there
is a high chance that she had stuffed them
and intends to do the same to Billy.
Sinister
The subtle implication of her actually
poisoning the past guests with the tea was
heavily hinted in the story when Billy
could faintly taste bitter almonds in the
tea. Presumably because she has laced it
with cyanide. Another clue that leads to
this conclusion is that her body odor
smells either like pickled walnuts, new
leather or the corridors of a hospital.
