The Wenogradsky column is a simple device invented by Sergei Winogradsky in the 1880s to culture a diverse set of microorganisms. Sakshi and Anjali built a model Wenogradsky column to understand the relationships between microbes and how they live together in different niches, helping or competing with each other. Their findings showed that microbes arrange themselves according to their needs, with some producing oxygen for others or living in aerobic vs. anaerobic conditions, demonstrating that microbes help each other survive by occupying different niches.

simple device for culturing a large diversity of microorganisms . It is invented by Sergei Winogradsky in the 1880’s. Why we need to make this column ? We made the simple model of wenogredsky column to understand the relationship among microbes . How they live and work together ? Do they help each other ? Do they compete with each other? Our findings- In our model we find that ‘Microbes live and work together , they arrange and fit into different niches within the column according to their needs. Example – some microbes produce oxygen and some microbes need it. The occurrence of different types of microbes in the column proves that microbes help each other in surviving . example – some microbes live in aerobic condition while some in anaerobic conditions. So we can conclude that microbes help each other so that they all can survive.
