 Whats reading comprehension ?

* comprehension means “pemahaman”

* readingcomprehension is making sense of
what you read and connecting the ideas in the text to
what you already know.

“Comprehension means thinking while you read”

How to be an excellent reader ?

- practise ! Read, read and read !

- improve your vocabulary !
Don't be lazy to open you dictionary
- think critically by asking question ( 5w +
1H )
- Discuss
- review and summarize!
 Topic is the general theme or
What is topic? subject of a passage.

- When you read, you should begin by looking for the topic.
- It will help you connect the text to what you alreadt know
- In order to find the topic, ask yourself:

“what is the texk about? What is the general idea?”

 Example:
1. Elephants zebra Lions African animal Tiges

2. Wheels Tires Brakes Seats steer Doors Car

3. Tent -water bottle-camping-sleeping bag-mosquito repellent-

MAIN IDEA

Main idea is the author’s idea about the topic

It is always a complete sentence that includes both
topic and the idea that the writer wishes to express
Example
Topic : cat
Possible main idea about cat :
1.cats are very adaptable animal
2.cats have very expressive faces
 Main idea of paragraph
-The main idea of paragraph is usually stated by the writer in one more
sentences
- The sentence that states this main idea is called the topic sentence
- The topic sentence tells what the rest of the paragraph is about

“ if you get the main idea,

you will get the rest of sentences in paragraph”

then ask yourself “what is the author trying to

say about the topic?
 The Federal Trade commission has become increasingly
interested in false and misleading packaging. Complaints
have been filed against many food packagers because they
make boxed unnecessarily large to give a false impression
of quantityCosmetics manufacturers have been accused of
using false bottoms in packaging to make a small amount
of their product appear to be much more.
