Background
Water is classed as an insulator since it has low conductivity .
Nevertheless, the electricity can conduct through the tap
water. It is resulted from the presence of some ions in water
(Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+..) that increase the conductivity of water.
Thus, “super-pure” water which contain no impurities is
obviously an insulator.
However, autoprotolysis, the process of dissociation of
water itself forming the solvated proton (H3O+) and the
hydroxyde ion (OH-), which also can affect the conductivity
of “super-pure” water. The reaction is usually represented as:

A conductivity meter that applies voltage between two
electrodes. The drop in voltage between the two electrodes
is used to measure the resistance in the water, which is
converted into conductivity.
Temperature: 293K
