Introduction

• Delhi Metro Phase IV project integrates Building Information Modelling (BIM).

• BIM adoption redefines largescale infrastructure project execution.

• BIM can revolutionize project management, reduce costs, enhance sustainability, and mitigate
environmental impacts.

• Delhi Metro Phase IV project demonstrates a broader global trend in infrastructure development.

• Study investigates BIM's role, benefits, challenges, and implications for future infrastructure
development in the Delhi Metro Phase IV project.
Literature Review

• BIM revolutionizes the construction industry by integrating planning, design, construction, and
management.

• Key BIM benefits: collaborative approach, 3D modeling, data management, and stakeholder
collaboration.

• Improved visibility through detailed 3D models helps detect and resolve problems early, reducing
cost risks.

• BIM fosters communication and collaboration among architects, engineers, contractors, and
owners.
Literature Review

• Centralized models enable real-time collaboration, enhancing efficiency and precision in

project documentation.

• Digital storage of information ensures consistency, accuracy, error reduction, and resource
savings.

• BIM enhances cost estimation and financial management for more efficient construction.

• BIM's adoption transforms project management, design, and coordination, resulting in more
efficient, cost-effective, and higher-quality construction processes.
Methodology

Autodesk Solutions Used:

• FormIt: Used to create the initial project concept.

• Infraworks: Helps visualize metro station locations and provides walkthroughs for better
presentations.

• Revit: Used for detailed BIM modeling, generating bills of quantities, and construction
documentation.

• Navisworks: Detects and resolves clashes, offers 4D construction simulation and animation.

• BIM 360: Establishes a shared data environment, project control, monitoring, and design
collaboration.
Project Description/Data Collection and Analysis

• Delhi Metro Phase 4: Expanding to meet growing transportation needs of Delhi.

Phase 4 adds approximately 104 km of new metro lines with six new routes.

• Aims to provide convenient, efficient transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and pollution.

• Improves connectivity with suburban and less developed areas, linking to major transport
hubs.

• Anticipated benefits include improved quality of life, reduced travel time, congestion relief,
and economic growth.
Project Description/Data Collection and Analysis
• Ongoing implementation in collaboration with DMRC and
state governments, phased completion.

• Project faces challenges such as land acquisition, funding,

and environmental concerns.

• Total project cost is INR 24,948.65 crore (USD 3.3 billion),

with a 103.93 km corridor expected to be completed by
2024.

• Delhi government approval in March 2019; funding from

Delhi government, Indian government, and external loans.

• Continual expansion of the Delhi Metro network planned

for enhanced urban transportation in the NCR.
Results and Findings

By employing BIM, the project duration was cut by a whopping 33%.

BIM also facilitated an increase in labor productivity by 43%.

Environmentally, the use of BIM resulted in a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for
the Delhi Metro project
Discussion

Techture, an Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) consultancy, is working

with DMRC on the project.

The company uses Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro to ensure that deadlines are met and the
contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation – KEC International JV, gets
to know the nuances of structural features and behavioural features encompassing
operations.

Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro has set up an online collaboration platform, making
available a common data environment (CDE)
Discussion

Enables designers to visualize the complex geometry and shift from traditional on-site
logistics processes to data-and-model-based logistics process thus increasing their
efficiency and productivity.

The design also addressed the environmental concerns by cutting greenhouse gas
emissions and checked wastage, with the contractor optimizing the length of rebars.

BIM-based construction supply chain framework eased the audit process.

Conclusion

Array of benefits in AEC industry

Potential to revolutionise execution phase of construction and management

Capabilities in enhancing efficiency, cost effectiveness, communication, safety, and

sustainability, BIM is poised to remain an invaluable tool for future AEC projects

The power of cameras and sensors for electronic integration, the meticulous examination
of metro rail data and information pertaining to unforeseen
circumstances can greatly facilitate maintenance efforts
