Basic Lines
Object Line

A heavy, dark line which identifies the visible edge or


surface of an object.
Hidden Line

 Broken line, medium thickness. Used to


show edges not visible.
Center Line

 Fine, broken line made of alternating


short and long dashes. Used to shoe
the center of an object.
Dimension Line / Extension
Line
 Dimension Lines - used to show the
extent of a dimension.
 Extension Lines - Used to extend a
point from an object.
Leader
 Fine line used to define a point or area.

Grind Surface
Cutting Plane Line

 Used to indicate where an imaginary cut


is made through the object.
Section Lines

Steel Cast Iron

Copper, Lead, Zinc,


Bronze, Alloys
Brass
Break Lines

 Short Break Line

 Long Break Line


Used to show a part has been reduced in
length on the drawing to conserve space.
