2120 Analyzer

Basic Operation
Objectives
 1) Have a good basic understanding of the functions on
the 2120
 2) Know how to communicate between the 2120 and the
RBMware
 3) Collect and store additional spectra and waveforms on
the analyzer
 4) Change the analyzer set up parameters
External of the 2120

 At the top of the 2120 there are four

various plug in options:
 25 Pin Connection - This is used to
communicate to the PC for
uploading/dumping data. It’s also used
for our accelerometer connection

 9 Pin Connection - Used for a Bar

Code Reader
 BNC Connection - Used to
connect other devices E.g.
Tachometer.
 Battery Charger - Used to charge
the battery
External of the 2120

 At the bottom of the 2120 is the

External Memory Card
 Storage capacity will alter
depending on the size of the
memory card E.g. 1Meg, 2Meg
etc.
 Easily removed, this is done by
pressing the release button at
the side of the card.
2120 Control &
Function Keys
Analyzer Command Keys

 1) Utility

– Utility Functions
– Communication
options between
analyzer and PC
– Route selection
– Change analyzer
setup
– Battery check
– Master reset
Analyzer Command Keys

 2) Program Select
– Selects between data
collector mode, to any
other downloadable
programs installed

 3) Help
– Displays online help
message pertaining
to the currently
highlighted screen
item
Analyzer Command Keys

 4) Analyze
– Displays data that has been
collected
– Acquire additional spectrums
and waveforms
– Monitor Mode. ‘real-time’
vibration (does not store
data)
– Acquire spectrum over a
narrow band with (zoom
analysis)
– Analyze phase relationships
(two channel)
Analyzer Command Keys

 5) Notes

– Accesses notepad to
select comments
regarding monitored
machinery
– Allows the user to type
in ‘user-defined’ note
codes using the
alphanumeric keypad
Analyzer Control/Keypad

 Enter - Executes/accepts
menu selections and
initiates data collection

 Reset - Returns to the master

screen (is not a master reset).
Aborts data collecting when in
progress
Analyzer Control/Keypad

 Up/Down Arrows - Scroll

through menu options
Expand/contract vertical
plots, index through
measurement points

 Left/Right Arrows - Used to

move cursor across spectrum
plot. Move from one M/c to
another
Analyzer Control/Keypad

 Mark - Provides a more accurate

cursor location on a spectral plot.
Also displays harmonic cursors
when pressed twice

 Page up/down - Advances to the

next page on menus containing
more than one page

 Clear - Removes alphanumeric

entries from notepad, removes
cursor from spectrum
Analyzer Function Keys

 The function keys along the

bottom of the analyzer screen vary
depending on the screen display.

 An example of the function keys

available on a regular route point
are as follows:
 F1 - Battery Check - displays
the status of the battery capacity
Analyzer Function Keys

 F2 - Mach List - Displays the list

of machines on the selected route
and the machine status

 F3 - Vibr Parms - Displays the

vibration parameters for the route
point
 F4 - Plot Data - Displays the
spectral data associated with the
route point
Analyzer Function Keys
 F5 - Clear Data - Deletes all
data that has been stored on
route collection

 F6 - New RPM - Change the

RPM on a variable speed
machine

Remember the function

keys vary depending
upon display screen
Uploading and
Downloading
Routes
Uploading/Downloading Routes
 This is done through the ‘Utility’ button.
 Highlight the option ‘Communications’ and press Enter.
 Select the option ‘Load Route’
 It then asks you ‘Delete all Routes’ Yes will clear the
previous routes from memory.
 A second screen appears asking you to confirm deletion.
Uploading/Downloading Routes
 Select the database you require to load routes from and
press ‘Enter’
 Select individual route you wish to load and press ‘Enter’
 The route will now load in to the 2120 analyzer
 Procedure is repeated if multiple routes are required.
When loading second route do not ‘delete’ routes when
prompted as this will erase the first route load.
Uploading/Downloading Routes
 When route data has been collected it is recommended
the data is dumped immediately (to prevent anybody
deleting data before it is downloaded)
 To download the data press ‘Utility’ and highlight
‘Communications’ as before
 Select the option ‘Dump Data’ and press ‘Enter’
 Option to dump data in reverse order, (default No)
 Select route and press ‘Enter’ the data will now be
downloaded.
Trouble Loading/Downloading
 If there is no communication between the
analyzer and the PC there are a number of things
we need to check
– 1) Ensure the Communication program is activated in
the software
– 2) That the communication lead is connected into the
right Com port in the PC.
– 3) The right com port is select in the RBM software
– 4) The Baud rates on the analyzer and the RBM
software are the same.
Trouble Loading/Downloading
 Checking the Baud rate
 To check the baud rate on the 2120 we need to:
– 1) Utility
– 2) Communications
– 3) Configure Port
– 4) Change Baud Rate to match the software Baud
Rate
Select Routes
 When multiple routes have been uploaded to the analyzer,
we can choose which route we want to do first. This is
done by:
 Utility - highlight ‘Select Route’
 Use the up and down arrows to select new route and
press ‘Enter’
 Now press ‘Reset’ to take you back to the main screen
and your selected route will be ready.
Acquiring Additional
Spectra
Acquire Additional Spectra
 When collecting data it may be necessary to take
further readings as well as the route data, this is done
by:
 Press the Analyze key to display the functions menu.
 Highlight (5) Acquire Spectrum and press Enter
 The option is now given to change the spectrum set
up. E.g. Fmax or lines of resolution, press Enter when
ready
 Data is now collected, but not stored. To store the data
press F3. Reset back to main screen.
2120 Set Up Options
2120 Set Up Options
 We can change various settings on the 2120. E.g.
Display, Units, Date and Time etc.
 This is done under the Utility button, and select
(3) Change Setup.
 There are now 6 parameters we can alter, each
parameter set has various options.
 E.g. (4) Data Units - allows us to change from
metric to english and CPM’s to Hz
